I love how the movie doesn't just attack how corporations dehumanize people, but also encapsulates and celebrates the simple desires of the average person in a way that's oddly profound. The man doesn't want riches or power, he just wants a cheesy, unrealistic, male fantasy. And that's okay.

i had no idea office space had such impact on people

tbh office space was one of the movies i stole from walmart when i was a teenager. that's how i saw it. haven't seen it since. might rewatch it now since you all say it's the bible and ****

Frownland 07-15-2015 09:47 AM

Anything Mike Judge touches is gold. Office Space is his second best behind King of the Hill.

It's probably one of the most quotable movies i've seen.

King of the Hill is the best thing ever created.

It's just so subliminally brilliant on so many levels.

I might put Futurama above it, but it'd be close. Dale is definitely the best animated sitcom character ever though.

Frownland 07-15-2015 10:01 AM

All of KotH's characters are pure quality. I think Dale, Bill, and Cotton are my faves.

YorkeDaddy 07-15-2015 10:25 AM

No I think there's a stark quality difference, like 9.9/10 versus 7.5/10

Also that Thomas the Train gif is hilarious

I do think that they put much more time into Futurama. I just like the subtlety and style of humour of KotH better (still love me some Futurama though).

Definitely. Humour wise they're pretty close, but no cartoon has ever made me feel as many different emotions as Futurama.

Im with Yorke Daddy on this one, Futurama is better.

Koth has good characters but the show's dynamic is kinda slow paced and uneventful on contrast futurama can radically change from episode to episode.

That's what's great about KotH. It has a more natural drama that feels more true to life.

I hadn't even realized how much this thread had been derailed. I read this and was like "the **** does this have to do with King of the Hill?"

Chula Vista 07-15-2015 11:19 AM

Most sublime animated show ever IMO. You need to watch episodes at least three times to get it all down.

Yeah, and the amount of (utterly brilliant) Futurama jokes that would fly miles over your head would come to like ten per episode

Key 07-15-2015 11:23 AM

I just never found Futurama funny tbh.

Well I don't find KotH particularly funny all that often, it's more of an occasional chuckle type of show for me. I definitely like it but it's in a different comedic stratosphere from Futurama for me

Mondo Bungle 07-15-2015 11:28 AM

"What's your name?"
"I dunno, Fry?"

that's like my favorite Futurama thing

That's pretty much how it is for me but with Futurama not being particularly funny.

I don't think so. There is some social commentary that's a bit highbrow, but for the most part it's an accessible show that appeals to just about any intelligence level.

I like that it lampoons working class conservatism, but at the same time isn't mean-spirited about it. All classes and subcultures of humanity can be made fun of, but the show also recognizes that that doesn't mean they are necessarily any less for their flaws.

But most of them don't get it. At first.

I think most of the people who don't get it are the working class Southerners that it lampoons, as they often get offended without looking past the surface mockery. I would also assume most of those are probably from Texas.

And while that is part of the show's charm it's also what makes it kinda boring and safe. Here's Koth

Peggy has some crisis and overreacts to it, Bobby finds a weird hobby, Hank dances with Ladybird and Luanne finds new ways to look like an Airhead.

That right there reminds me of like 7 Koth eps, Futurama on the other hand has the same familiar character relationships but it's futuristic concept opens alot of possibilities plot wise.

Futurama is even more creative than the Simpsons or Family guy even Home movies and i f*ckin love that show.

That's life though. People do the same **** all the time for the most part, with personal growth being slow.

I'd agree that Futurama is more creative, since it's a legit sci-fi show that explores its universe rather than treating it as just a two-dimensional setting. Kinda like the modern American version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Do be careful with that my dear, robotripping (if you did it on purpose) can do some very harmful things to one's brain and especially the short term memory.

But I find it to be very odd, the way threads on this place seem to disintegrate into nothing but glib fuckery.

I am however rather fond of that gif the OP posted in the opening thread, it's very useful for sarcasm purposes. I cannot wait for the day that sarcasm has its own special font.

I actually hardly do it but thanks for the concern.

It's no bother, it's important to practice harm reduction if one is inclined to the substances :)

Frownland 07-15-2015 11:09 PM

Trollheart should give robotripping a shot.
