Today was kind of annoying. I woke up far too early for someone who didn't get to bed until 2 A.M. When I went to try and register for next semesters classes I found that I wasn't allowed because apparently a payment I made a few weeks ago didn't go through. Took awhile of talking to the bank but I finally got that cleared up only to find out that I couldn't register for classes until Wednesday anyways so chances of getting what I was hoping to get is decreasing. To top it all off I had to remove an ingrown toenail on my right big toe today. I got most of it, but there's still a small amount of pain when I walk, and I've also got a very bad headache from too much junk food. I'm hoping perogies will help things get better.

I have drunk since I was 15 and by that I mean a lot. I'm now 37 and still at it. Oddly enough it has never ever got in the way of day to day functioning and I very very rarely drink during the day but I think it's a personal triumph if I manage 2 nights in a row without drinking. I think it's classed as 'Alcohol Dependant' or some such crap by the 'ordinary folk'.

Is this an MB 'AA' meeting? I feel like I'm in confession! I do know WHY I drink though and it's not some deep seated personal hatred etc I just feel more confident and alive when I have had a few for some reason. MEH. In the morning I will cringe when I read this back!

it's actually called "alcoholism" by American standards. but i'm sure you'd get a reprieve for being British. ;)

it's funny, 75-85% of my campus probably has the same outlook as you, but they're also given the benefit of the doubt for being so young. i suppose it gets to be unacceptable when you actually start making a worthwhile contribution to society. personally i don't really have the luxury of getting drunk during the week due to the time required by my studies. but because of it i probably look forward to the weekend more than anybody else.

Oh man, yesterday was crazy.

Yesterday I went in to do advanced registration for continuing students at my school, and then this happened:

Financial Aid: "Hey, you might have to give us back that tuition refund check we gave you".
Me: "Um, you're joking right? VA should have reimbursed you my tuition. I know they sent you a check because I already got my benefit money from them, and they send you guys the tuition first."
Financial Aid: "Sorry, but VA isn't paying tuition to this school and we don't know why. We didn't get a check."

Fuck...

So I get home and call VA. Now, I've been trying to contact VA for about 3 months now, and since this massive clusterfuck of ridiculous delays has been in effect since the new GI bill came out, I could never get through. 3 months. Busy phone for 3 months straight.
So by pure happenstance, I actually get through yesterday and finally get to talk to a case manager. This is what happens:

VA: "We're sorry, but we're not paying your school tuition because, judging by the school code, it's not classified as an 'institute of higher learning'"
Me: "fuck."

So I hang up and after trying to call Financial Aid to tell them what I'd learned, and not getting through, I decided to call the president of the Louisiana Board Of Regents, who basically manages and coordinates funding for all universities and colleges in Louisiana. I get through on the first try. It's the president's assistant. I tell her what's going on. She is astounded... This is what happens:

President's assistant: "Louisiana Technical College has been around for 30 years, is accredited, and is most certainly considered an 'institute of higher learning'. In fact, it has been serving veterans through the VA for many years and there's never been a single problem. My son is a veteran and going to a technical college next semester, and believe me, I will look into this personally and contact you when I get it sorted."
Me: "Sweet!"

So now I wait.
I'm holding off on registering for next semester, even though I've got all my scheduling done. If the VA doesn't get their stupid faces out of their asses soon, I'm writing Obama. (lmao)

I already wrote my senator.

So yea, yesterday I started a war with Veterans Affairs because they're incompetent.

Come to Ireland. It's much the same as Scotland but different somehow.

I went to a teetotal rave(held in a uni hall with no bar) and thoroughly enjoyed it.There's a first.

Tonight I walked out of my upper division theme class, and as I'm walking downstairs I see a guy I know at the bottom wearing gloves. When I reach the ground floor I see that he has a trashcan, and is working as a night-time janitor.

This is an intelligent guy who I knew from when I was in computer engineering. He graduated in the Spring and is finishing up a class. The best job a computer engineering student could find right now was janitor at the school he graduated from. Was sort of a reality check.

It was quite awkward running into him while on the job like that too.
