real good friend of mine that I work with got let go yesterday. she'd been with the company for 14 years but my guess is she became too expensive to keep. they hired a new guy out of the blue a week ago and were cagey about why (our team certainly didn't need another person). guess that's it

Ninetales sounded pretty clearly bitter and angry about this so "she became too expensive to keep" doesn't sound like a neutral statement.

The thing is, looking at it in a vacuum it makes sense. Someone makes 75% of another in the same position it's an easy call. But the company is very linear and already worries about employee retention so this is, from my pov, a bad precedent to be setting. you just work long enough here to be replaceable and even if you're good, moving up is difficult due to the current structure. I've recommended changes in that regard, but it's died with my director As for me, I'll likely be fine. Unrelated to all this going down, I have an interview next week, and have been slowly job hunting elsewhere anyways. The job itself has just been a placeholder until I find something better Quote:

Shockingly bean counting is common sense and treating people like human beings is unthinkable.

had the first advanced manufacturing class today. its the same stuff for homework and online assignment but just a whole semester long project we are producing and writing up.its so much i dont want to explain it :o: gotta present it in a fancy binder.
we are using the same book though, just the chapters we skipped on the last class for the book. once again, i didnt go to the store and buy mac n cheese. i thinking im going to start doing some really strict intermittent fasting rather than the 5/4 hour window ive been doing. might just try the one meal a day and then thats it  subway, its subway or baked chicken again :o: have a good day musicbanter |
Dont you have any good fastfood sub shops near you, like WaWa or QuikChek?

I did fuck-all at work today, like I do every day.

Barely been able to keep myself motivated to get out of bed. With my grandpa passing away and my anxiety being worse than it's been in a while, this has not been an easy week and I feel worse every day. I almost called in today because I feel absolutely horrible. Gonna be hard to keep a happy face today.

Still wishing you the best brother |
Appreciate it man. It may have to come to that but I'm needed at the store. I'm horrible about asking for time off. That's my anxiety. Its gonna be hard I know that. I just wasnt fully prepared for it. I guess you can't really be I suppose.

Walking home from work I stepped into a bike shop. Little sign out front about supporting local business instead of corporate greed. ****ers want $500 for a simple beach cruiser. If “local” means overpriced gentrified bull**** like that then **** local.
|
When I was looking for a relatively cheap bike, I tried a local shop and the cheapest one they had was $1200. That shop has since closed it's overpriced doors, but that's not a decent gauge for local business since the entire bike industry is overpriced bull****.

The thing about “local” is local business owners are also greedy ****s.
And they appropriate and gentrify everything |
I’m getting a Huffy Cruiser at Walmart $133
$500 yuppie **** can suck my dick |
It's the same deal here, nothing less than $800 even used.
Fortunately I've been lucky with craigslist. |

I think my bike was like $300 and that was about as low as the shop went but it's a decent bike and the shop is on my way to work so I always have a place nearby to go when I pop a tire. Shrug.

Property is robbery, no ethical consumption under late capitalism, eat the rich, etc.

Is it bad that I paid $900 for my bike?
|
is it a quality bike? do you use it often?
are you able to afford spending $900 on a ****ty bike? |
i think even if you have disposable income it just makes sense to be frugal/shop around for the best deal/most bang for your buck.
|
It's quality. I cycle 24 km to and from work every day. Work paid for my bike.
|
not bad at all.
i know it was a rhetorical question but that's dope. i cannot wait to dig in to my new job's wellness incentives - I think they pay like $25/week if you bike in? and they'll split the cost of your gym membership. this is why i went to community college for 8 years. |

Why don't you live closer, you twit?! Thirty minutes round trip for me is still tedious as ****! |
Cycling really changes your outlook on a working day. Driving or public transportation commutes can suck ass if there's traffic (which there usually is).
Yeah, my school gives me $200 a month for transportation, so the bike paid for itself in less than five months. Everything else is gravy. |

Ok, so it's even shorter. 7 and a half miles. The 24km is round trip.
