I'm really more Northern, urban white trash. My family comes from New York City, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Canada.

jwb 09-26-2021 03:17 PM

jadis 09-26-2021 03:25 PM

I'm half-French, half-Russian, so I get the baguette jammed up my ass by intellectually disabled weightlifters in tracksuits

jwb 09-26-2021 04:31 PM

Today, on my preferred music forum, I was accused of being "too old". I'm happy to say that's a first, in eleven years of membership, and I just wanted to thank the members who came to my defense: Marie , elphenor, Batlord, rubber soul and Trollheart. Thanks!

As usual, me and Anteater were on opposite sides of a debate, but to Ant's credit, that's always what it remains: a debate. So thanks for that too.

I enjoy debating people even if I disagree about something, so I'm glad you feel the same.

I don't think bufallo really counts as urban + tons of upstate ny is very rural.

Buffalo etc feel more like bleak Midwestern post industrial ****holes

But if you wanna call buffalo urban than ****in Greensboro is urban too lol

It's all relative, ain't it? Sure, compared to LA or Chicago, Buffalo is pretty damn rural. But compared to any place I've ever lived, Buffalo is pretty urban. For reference, I grew up in a town with barely more than 1,000 people.

jwb 09-26-2021 11:32 PM

That's ****in insane lol my cousin grew up in a town like that in Vermont. That's beyond rural bro you might as well have grown up on a commune.

But yeah i wasnt saying buffalo is rural.. it's a city just not a real city

Js a lot of upstate ny is actually really rural.. There are smallish cities up there too but that's not different from the rest of backwoods America

Eyyy my hometown population is 960 lol
Graduated with a class of 25. Since then the school has become one building for K-12, with only about 8 graduating seniors every year lol.

The olds come in the summertime and the population doubles.

Yeah, if you could just go ahead and try to be a little younger so you can understand whats going on, that'd be great.

lol

Fwiw, I've always found you to be one of the more level headed and astute personalities around here.

Yup, honestly, I wouldn't change anything about where I grew up, even if I had the chance. It was a very peaceful and serene upbringing. For most of my elementary school life, we didn't even have a playground. During recess we'd just play kickball on the pavement. I know we had two different buildings for elementary school/high school - and I think it remains that way. My graduating class consisted of 14 people.

Yup, I grew up in New Hampshire. I've spent plenty of time in Vermont - generally, Vermont is even more quaint than New Hampshire. Though I'm 26, my living/location preferences are probably more akin to an old retiree. Peace, quiet, isolation, with the biggest draw for tourists being the damn foliage changing in the fall. My wife wants to move elsewhere and says: "There's nothing to do here!" to which I reply "That's just the way I like it".

Oh god don't talk to me about my back!!! :D

I propose we begin a new group: MBOFC - The Music Banter Old Fogies Club - it has a real catchy sound, doesn't it: embofuc! ;) Minimum criteria: you must be over 50 years old, still alive (at least clinically) and have had a blow-up row with at least one person half your age, whether here or in real life. Also, you should subscribe to the general idea that "kids today don't [insert grump of your choice here]". People will be moved to the top of the queue for admission who a) know how to use a rotary phone (or what one is) b) remember before there were cashpoints and c) know what a stylus is, outside of a computer tablet.

Who's in? :)

Church (in my case, graveyard behind church...)

jwb 09-27-2021 12:09 PM

I agree with your wife. I liked visiting my cousins house but i couldn't handle living there. The name of the town was Mooretown (sp?) or something like that, off the mad river. There's like 1 store there and it's like the size of a corner store.

There's a serious sense of a tight knit community where everyone knows each other, which is a little too intensely intimate for me. This town is too small to me and it's like 30-40k probably. People are friendly and laid back and I'm just not lol. I'm like are you ****ing people ever in a rush?

I'm in. I had thought about starting a group like that myself. I'm certainly qualified, my blow up with Yorke Daddy, I'm sure, is still legendary

Are there frisbee's involved? I'll be 'in' if there's frisbee's involved.

...and instead of 'blow up row', can it be blow up doll? Asking for an old friend.

I grew up in a town of 2000 people on an island of 8000. I liked growing up there but I wouldn't go back to live permanently. I visit a few times a year and summer is still great, but when winter comes it becomes too depressing. Really nothing to do. I don't mind peace and quiet but I still like to be able to do things (for example, there is no cinema, the only gym in the town is terrible, no pool and other city life conveniences). I'm hoping to build a house there anyway, but to spend a limited period of time per year (with my own pool and gym).

The Batlord 09-27-2021 09:01 PM

I guess all these small town bumpkins had nothing to do but listen to music and argue on the internet.

DianneW 09-28-2021 02:00 AM

Inter breeding was a big thing here...
Can still see the results....
Commune style life I am guessing, crumbs some can't even understand each other speaking basic stuff..

My Birth town of Croydon in South of London...County of Surrey.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croydon

in 1801 there was a population of just 8000

1871-1971 went up to 334,000
2012 There was 372,752 People.

.... so as I left nearby Beddington Surrey in 2000 and moved to the Southern Coast of England..
todays Figures would they be Up or Down on 2012.....
Up still at 386,710 Population 2021
