After a few years of warning students against using ChatGPT because it's transparent and bad for your brain, I decided to try it out when I wasn't entirely happy with the abstract I wrote for a paper of mine that's about to go to peer review. It produced a perfect abstract, much pithier and more inviting than anything I've managed to come up with. Is this how it ends? Is my next paper going to be written by ChatGPT in its entirety?

Our upstairs neighbor is aged around 100 and has a live-in caretaker. Around 2am we hear him cry out "help me please"... We run upstairs, knock the door, he keeps asking for help but clearly can't hear our cries to him asking what happened. We call an ambulance, they can't force the door open so they call the police and the firefighters too for some reason. The firefighters force the door open to find the poor guy stuck on the toilet and his caretaker... sleeping in his room. That useless sack of $hit just slept through all the racket like nobody's business.

On a semi-serious note, obviously I want MB to be a place where I can be me and write what I want to write but other people feel uncomfortable when I move too far in certain directions. Much to my surprise Chrome knew my user name and password.
My goodness, 14 years since I posted here. I don't even recognise any of the names anymore. A lot has changed in all of our lives I'm sure :D.
I had a good day. Shipped a record off (discogs, and all that), had a walk and a beer with a friend (we walk every monday, he's a music and vinyl geek to so that's great), did some cleaning as I have friends over from the UK on Wednesday and Thursday, took photos of some audio equipment for my local record store, watched some YouTube. All in all a pretty chill day.

How's life here? Is this place still alive or is it just a few leftover people that are hanging around out of habit? I miss the days of forums and msn messenger folks...

Welcome back. There isn’t as much traffic as when I first joined (two years after you last posted!) but the slower pace makes it easier to keep track of things. There’s a good mix of veterans and newer members, with folks from a lot of different countries. What kind of stuff have you been listening to lately?

Honestly, the fact there are few people around is the best thing about MB. I'd say it gives this place the vibe of an abandoned house with a drained pool, i.e. a very cool vibe if you're of a certain cast of mind. If you are, we're glad to have you around.

Today we started to discuss the difference between microbiology and medical microbiology. Microbiology covers things like the bernoulli equation, various bacteria, various fungi, and various viruses, but sounds mostly theoretical. Whereas medical microbiology is more practical, dealing with diseases and amino acids, but most people only talk about it generally which does not provide the deeper/more systemic understanding needed.
