The thing is to be funny, you have to tell jokes that are humourous. Just telling jokes won't cut it if they suck as bad as Jerry's.

I just threw my cigarettes in the garbage. Today marks the 56th attempt at quitting smoking.

Don't say you've quit, say that you don't smoke anymore. Mental reinforcement or some psychobabble along those lines.
