Thank you lads.

The doctor is going to speak to him in the morning. My mom has to be there for 8am. I guess we will know what's going on then. Just spoke to him on the phone.

I took him to hospital yesterday because something came up in his blood test and he was told to go to A&E ASAP. They have found a lump and the scan showed inflammation on his bowel. He is being kept in and may need surgery. Me and my dad are very close and obviously I'm worried. He has lost weight and looks exhausted and is quiet even though he's trying to keep it together around us.

We will know more tomorrow I think. Don't like seeing him like this and it breaks my heart.

Will do everything I can to support him and my mom.

I’m sorry to hear that Fluff. I hope everything goes well.

The doctor said it's diverticulitis. Having been reading on the Internet and spoken to a doctor, I'd say this is good news.

Going to visit him tomorrow. Anyone had this or know much about it? Could need surgery but don't know yet. But overall good news I think and certainly much better than the catastrophic thoughts going through my head over the past two days.

Also, thanks to everyone.

I had to google that one. I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious. Best wishes to your dad and I hope treatment is as quick and uncomplicated as possible.

Good to hear that it's "only" that. Kinda hits older people who often have had a lifelong diet too low in fiber.
He'll probably have to change to a healthier diet and consider a regular colonoscopy in the years ahead
(well after his surgery, of course - which is inevitable because it doesn't reduce on its own).
It's more common than needs to be, but that's the state of unhealthiness here.

I'm so sorry Fluff. I hope he'll be ok

Diverticulitis CAN be serious, but if caught quickly and dealt with, isn't a big deal. My dad had it, and got through it.
