Pissed off an old lady that approached me while I was walking my dog.
She says she wants me to know there’s a community meeting once a month for “our” neighborhood once a month. I’m like what kind of issues do you discuss? “A cop comes. Mostly it’s about putting out fires.” She smiles. I don’t smile. I’ve lived here 15 years, I tell her. How long have you lived here? “Oh, I live in [more expensive neighborhood] I just have a studio here. It’s not just for residents. It’s for anybody with an interest.” —- Without further comment I walk off. About thirty meters later she’s back on her trike right behind me. “I don’t own the studio I rent it. My heart is in this neighborhood!” Two places? I question. And walk off.
Sigh. Five years ago she wouldn’t have even ****ed with this neighborhood in the morning.
Every neighborhood I’ve ever lived in in America I’ve been priced out of. I understand that I’m the face of gentrification. Once I moved in it was all over for the black people. But goddamn if I’m not always next to go.
There’s little row houses where the crackhouse used to be. The rent is blasting up everywhere. Another neighbor told me to tell my landlord to fix this dump up. I’m like when he gets around to fixing this place up my goddamn rent will triple.
Fortunately, it’s really run down but this structure is over 100 years old so it’s protected from being razed by a local ordinance. I think he wants to sell it but he needs to fix it up first and he can’t afford it because he got cancer. Haha. I know I’m ****ed sooner than later though. Let a ghetto be a goddamn ghetto. Jesus.
**** white liberals.
