I never did get into opiates. My dad died of cancer and left me with a **** ton of oxy, codiene, promethazine etc. As well so some fetanyl patches. I threw the fetanyl away and did the rest till I ran out. Then never tried to get more.

This was in South Florida around 09/10 when Xanax and oxy were starting to over take crack as the number one street drug. I went to a pill Mill once and scored a bunch for my friend who was dealing...I just never quite caught the bug.

that's not at all different from what I said you just rearranged it. Certain things are outside your hands, certain things are in your hands. I think focusing on how you deal with the things you can control is the productive way to deal with this.

You already conceded that your choices matter. Which means that you already conceded my point.

I think fundamentally the difference between me and you is that you think focusing on choice makes excuses for the system. Where as I think focusing on how you are a victim of the system makes excuses for yourself.

Difference being you can control what you do. You can't control what the system does.

Find one quote where anyone said your choices don’t matter

@ OH

I'm not gonna search out the quote but to be specific you told me no choices I make will improve my situation.

And more generally I haven't ever said anything other than choices matter yet I'm getting rebuked like I'm selling some sort of snake oil. I made it pretty clear from the get go that life isn't fair and you can't control everything.

I just realized that jwb and elph haven't really interacted much before.

This should be fun going forward.

Yeah see I think this is trying to be a Republican who thinks that everything is in your control and blaming anything on anything other than yourself is making excuses, but you know that's bull**** but you still want the Republican view that anything good happening for you is something you did that you should pat yourself on the back for.

on a meta level your choices are not made absent the system, people are for the most part products of their environment
But I never said don't critique the system. I just get accused of defending the system for talking about choice.

Or perhaps I chose a happy medium between everything being under your control vs complete determinism
