That's sort of the problem with entrenched power structures. They're entrenched. You can't critique them without the reality being depressing and horrific.

The US is especially ****ed up, sure, but I still think that a lot of the well-meaning liberal stuff just reinforces racial issues instead of fighting them.

I also don't think that only our choices matter. Obviously race, class, gender etc. play a big role. And they do in every country, being an immigrant I've encountered some dumb-ass ****, even in liberal Germany.
But we should still empower people to make the best of their lives, even and especially when they have limited leeway in doing that.

People will always find some dumb reason for some form of tribalism. Blue jeans or something. Doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to get better though.

In Belgium, maybe, but the echoes of slavery are still ringing in the US. Many issues here are quite clearly driven by both. Where is the Venn diagram that shows us when racism doesn't count anymore?

I agree but it's kind of a strawman to really say that liberals think personal decisions don't matter. Yeah, people on here put a lot of stock into that but that's because a lot of them don't like admitting how much of their life is their fault.

I always see it as a the odds are stacked against you if you're this, this or this but that doesn't mean your goals are impossible. The defeatist attitude you're talking about is probably just as harmful as the boot licking polar opposite if not more.

Thanksgiving was nice but I got hit with a brutal sinus infection so it was hard to really do much without sneezing or thinking I was about to sneeze
