I'd take a vow of poverty too if I got free room and boy from the Catholic Church.

No you wouldn't. Anyway, it's not only the Catholic Church. What about Buddhist monks and other religions? Lots of them take vows of poverty.

There’s monks in India that live in the elements totally on alms but most monks live in a monastery where they get three hots and a cot.
