Congratulations Key! For many people, that is one of life's major turning points. It was for me anyway, because I spent the next 35 years paying off the bank debt that I incurred.

In another thread, the much missed Occult Hawk explained his idea about the morality of house ownership: don't own property that is bigger than you need, don't own property that is beyond the reach of other people: something like that, anyway. I bought myself a one-bedroom apartment, so I think I pass the OH approval test.

Buying a house in Seattle? No mean feet.

The realtor I'm working with has been finding some good spots, though they get snatched up pretty quick. I got into a bidding war with one of them, but it all boiled down to who got their offer in first. It's a new learning opportunity for me. Funny thing is, the property owner lost a good opportunity because I was bidding over listing price, whereas the guy put in listing price all cash.

Mainly looking at 2bed/1bath. Budget is not out of the ordinary and condos have been pretty reasonably priced in the smaller towns around Seattle over the past few months. Apartment living has become more expensive than just buying property at this point.

Congrats Key! Btw who the **** pays for a house in all cash, that sounds super shady

The Batlord 08-23-2021 07:38 AM

That's the way home buying is going over here these days. Just tens of thousands of dollars as a down payment and if you don't have it good luck.

Imagine buying a shared wall…

Jk ki congrats, hopefully you can stack some money and eventually rent it for a profit. Any HOA?

Key 08-23-2021 08:23 AM

Thanks y'all. Yeah each location I've looked at varies in HOA so it's honestly just about getting my money's worth. I don't mind paying a couple hundred extra if it's worth it. But yeah its a first come first serve market out here. Mostly investors looking to rent out the property. I'm looking to live in it. I'm willing to fight for one tho. So is my realtor. Theres been a few locations I've looked at but nothing solidified yet. But I know I'll find the perfect place soon.

My daughter bought her first home a little over a year ago in May. It was listed for 200k, and today it's 85k over that listing if she wanted to dump it quick for a profit. The market has bulged quite a bit, so getting in at the right time can be tricky.

Good luck to you, Key(ii)!

...and hugs to Exo. Not sure what to say in situations like that, but I feel like saying something. Processing the emotions and everything else can be a struggle. The 'what-ifs' and all of that can tear you apart, but as you know, time will heal those wounds and the internal questions will eventually be resolved. I hope that time goes quickly for you.
