Gazza's Tears cider is 10%. I think it used to be about 14-16% and you can get it in a few select pubs in Newcastle but everytime they drag it out at the beer festival its a slightly lower percentage.

I'm not sure what I think of Absinthe. It's incredibly smooth and goes down easy, but it tastes EXACTLY like black licorice. If licorice is your thing then you MUST try absinthe. I'm not big on the taste so I'm sure what to think of it.

The one great thing about living in the middle of a hodgepodge of German and East European people (what I like to call Pennsylvania) is the wealth of great beer available. I live in a college town, so ****ty beer is always available, but there are about a dozen microbreweries in the surrounding counties that I can get for a little over $20 / case.

Also Yuengling is $19 a case.

Im not sure if its a local beer around Pittsburgh but have you tried lionshead? Very cheap great tasting beer that have riddles on each bottlecap. Also Iron City Beer is pretty good, and I imagine wherever you are in PA its easy to get.

Are light beers as popular as they are here in the States. (and now the new 64 calorie beer, thats America for you)

Lionshead is fantastic and fantastically cheap (it's from Wilkes-Barre, btw). Actually I haven't tried Iron City, IC Light is complete pisswater so I usually avoid it, but I might give it a try. My favorite Pittsburgh beer by far is Penn Pilsner; they've got a great wheat beer. The German restaurant is fantastic as well.

I did not know that. I always figured it was a local Pittsirgh Beer. And I agree IC light is a disgrace to ICB. To be honest I had no clue they even made it.

Il look into Penn Pilsner. I have been wanting to try a few new local blends. I just hope its not to costly.

I tried IC Light when I was in Wheeeling, WV, because someone told me it actually tasted like iron. And I have to admit, it did have a distinct metallic taste to me (but it could have been the power of suggestion I suppose). Either way, it was pretty crappy.
