I'm pretty sure the $180 includes the court costs. The actual ticket itself is probably like $60 or something but the court costs are what's killing him. Don't quote me on that, though, I could be wrong. The ticket should break it down, though.

It's been a while since my one ticket, so you could be right, but yeah, court costs seem to be even more than the fine itself.

And again I could be wrong, too, because NC could be different from NY. I'd have to see the actual ticket or be familiar with New York law to know for sure. I do know, that in North Carolina, court cost is included in the ticket, and you have to pay that regardless of getting the ticket dismissed, dropped, or paying the full ticket.
