Uhm. I moved in to college a couple of days ago. And I think I'm starting to get used to everything now, I don't know.

It's still weird not having my friends and everything.

But I do love the independence.

Today was uneventful.
Actually, I got pretty annoyed today... There's this late-20-something year old guy in my VB programming class who looks like he might have been a Marine who got injured in Iraq. The haircut is very marine, he's got scars on his head, and walks with a cane.
That's all well and good, but I don't appreciate his retarded interruptions during lecture to state the obvious in a different way.
He keeps stopping our professor, who has a doctorate and knows what he's doing, to vocalize, in his own terms, what the professor just said.
For example:

Professor: "Visual Basic code programming is very similar to C++ programming *INTERRUPTION*
Retarded Marine: "So that means they're pretty much the same."
Professor: "In a sense, yes... moving onwa..*INTERRUPTION*
"So it's sorta like when you know how to drive a Honda stick shift and then you try to drive a Ford stick shift then."

Honestly, this guy is killing me. He's causing the professor to stop moving forward in a lecture in order to tend to this one jackass.
I've pretty much made it a point that when the dumb Marine interrupts, I just walk out the class and go smoke a cigarette. By the time I get back, it's finally moving forward again.

Visited my Dad in the home today for the first time since going on holiday.
He has senile dementia, parkinson's, angina, a suspected internal bleed awaiting an exploratory operation, crohn's disease, depression (unsurprisingly).
When I arrived he was trying to eat his tea (most of which was down his front) without any teeth, sitting in his own piss and totally confused.

Ain't life grand!

Err... that sucks, David.

My dad always told me the only thing he'd ever ask from me is to not send him to a home... I know eventually I'll be wiping up after him and he's definitely on a road to dementia. I think I'd rather not have to see that day in and day out, but I would want to respect his wishes.
I can't even imagine being prepared to physically care for my dad in that state. I selfishly find myself hoping that if he's to go that route, he expires prior.

You won't have much choice if he gets that bad. Believe me, it's impossible to care for someone who needs 24 hour care.

My mum and aunt had a damn good try, for 4 years in fact. In the end you have no life yourself and the person in question is too much of a danger to themselves in the first place.

Eurgh ... homes. I've pretty much already decided I'm offing myself before I get near that situation. I have a friend whose grandad was in hospital a lot and moved to a care home. The dementia was very traumatic for her so you definitely have my sympathy there David.

To struggle with his care is unfair to the person suffering when they can be looked after by professionals.
There is no easy way around the situation. It's a fucking nightmare.

I guess the plus side of it is that by the time he gets admitted, he won't know who did it.
After that it's just a conscience thing. But you're right David, there's only so much you're able to do.

He's got to the stage where when he asks to go home, he means to his room in the home.
He doesn't even know where he is, what time of day it is, or even what day it is.
