I remember saying that when I was a kid, which is weird because I exclusively listened to rock and metal (with clean vocals, like a ***got) at the time. Although maybe it's not that weird because I had approximately zero knowledge of punk or hardcore music at the time as well.

I've never actually met anyone who wore a band t-shirt without being a fan of their music. Even though I'm very suspect about a lot of fashion-oriented people wearing Ramones and Rolling Stones shirts, they could own their entire discographies for all I know. I had a girlfriend once who used to wear a Metallica t-shirt despite only owning the Black Album and St. Anger. But at least she was a fan of them to some degree, and she didn't have much money to spend on CDs.

Name a cover version and then claim it's by that band, ie "Oh I love that Boyzone song "Father and son."
"That's a Cat Stevens song, you do know?"
"Cat who?"

I once bought a shirt at a show for an opening band whose set I missed and had never listened to previously. The shirt said "Fuck Cancer" so what was I supposed to do?

Afterward I ended up listening to them and not giving a ****. Still wore the shirt. More for the caption than the ****ty band though.

Now that's what I call music

Also why do so many Metal bands have strange names?

At least she still had the sense to skip Load and Reload.

Edit: The biggest offender I've seen is the Joy Division Unknown Pleasures shirt. I know it looks cool..but damn, please at least know that it's album art and not just a cool shirt. I had a server once with the shirt and I complimented it and asked if she was a fan. Her response was "Oh, this is a band?". She didn't get 20% that night.

I meant in person ;)

One of my friends back in school also wanted to get one of those explicit Cradle of Filth t-shirts despite not being a fan of the band. He never did though.

Not that strange but a lot of the Grime artists have names where they spell stuff incorrectly which has always irritated me.

But the Metal guys go for shocking ones, names like The AIDS Riddled Thundercunts, Munching On Faeces or Prolapsed Anus.

Dizzee Rascal is retarded. Pretty much all the genres have ****ty naming conventions. I always wondered why punk bands wanted to follow garage rock down that same boring road of lame names.
