Names are often the first thing that attract a person to check out a band. You're not likely to get too far if you couldn't even be arsed to think up a name for your band. If you're going to show you don't care why should anyone else?

If you're playing publicly and/or releasing music then your goal is also to be listened to. Otherwise you could just sit at home strumming a guitar or play with a band in your garage or whatever. Might as well commit to your narcissism.
