Problem-Attic

It contains many non-traditional math approaches for mental processing. People bitch about that because it wasn't how they lurnt it.

Yeah

I looked through that link the first time.

If you can provide evidence that people who can actually do math frequently take issue with these approaches I’ll defer. I think what we really have is people who can’t do math complaining about math and one corporation that has the market cornered and others clawing for it.

I was going off of what the popular opinion is, so I guess the conclusion that we should draw from this is that most people don't know how to do math.

But on a more philosophical note education is not about developing an intelligent population so much as it's about churning out an obedient work force while quickly labeling those that will not jump through the hoops as having "behavioral problems"
I don't know why we don't offer trade school options in high school. Why not offer kids the knowledge of how to fix cars or weld when they're still in school? They'd clearly do better with that than Algebra 2 that they'll forget in a week if they even learned it in the first place.

Ja they shouldn't be failed, they should be castrated.

It wouldn’t help. Compulsory education of any kind is a failure. If you taught trades there still wouldn’t be any more demand for those trades. Just like the entire computer literacy thing is a farce.

What is the goal of compulsory education?

But at least kids would have something to fall back on besides something that was only worthwhile if they finished an 8 year degree. I highly doubt it would fix the current demographics, but at least kids would have something regarding a fighting chance.
