If you're a rich kid then either you can make it on your own without daddy's money or you can't and an inheritance would then only prop up someone who has no more right to that money than any of the poor people who he'd probably become without it. Just another way to perpetuate a de facto aristocracy. Not that I wouldn't like something to prop me up when my grandparents and mother pass on, but I certainly haven't earned it.
