It can, but it's not necessarily always so. As was pointed out with Liverpool. So basically, we're both right and I haven't proved your point nor you proved mine. Some people will think of sports teams when thinking of certain cities/states (Dallas I think of Dallas Cowboys obviously, Leicester I think of Leicester City Football Club) and some will think of music (Seattle/Nirvana, Liverpool/Beatles etc).

How? I'll tell you how. Your point was that a "Spanish guy" joining Villa, or any team, doesn't give a **** about anything but getting paid, and I pointed out that these people get involved and make themselves important to the city. You then said something along the lines of "not every player in a [insert city name here] is from that city", and then more or less accepted that it's the same in US sports. So your argument that teams should only be made up of people from that city doesn't stand, and down you go.

I always knew it was the same, you twit! I even just explained my point again and you seemingly ignored it to trumpet your nonsense victory over a soggy strawman.

Well I already explained, nobody outside of the East Midlands would have been able to tell you anything about Leicester three years ago. Half of Asia would now though. Of course bands can raise a city's profile internationally, it depends on the band and city, you kind of said it as a general statement that almost always applies. I'd say Leicester's successful team has represented the city more than Kasabian, and that's got a lot to do with it carrying its name. It's certainly brought more money and tourism in.

You love that word, don't you? Maybe you misspelled it? Did you? Ah **** it. I guess you'll never change either. We're a pair, eh?

It's also taught the world how ****ing mad the English language is! Can you imagine the Asian newscasters trying to get it right: Ry-kester? Ry-chester? Rie-kester? Accchhhh! [insert Asian cursing for some time here] :D

I never said it was always so. I've said it can be so and I think that point has been proven.

As someone from outside East Midlands, I can tell you I have no idea what any of that means.

It means more people are going to associate Leicester with its team than its music. I explained why this is. Probably the only time it has ever been on international news was when its team won the league.

Of course, it helps that Leicester is known for just about nothing else, and that its music is pretty awful.

Cuthbert 05-07-2018 05:54 PM

When I think of Leicester, I think of crisps, cheese and Hindus.

Oh and the team, obv.

Lynda Carter.

Her 70s show was OK, and she had a killer body, but about 15-20 years ago Sherri dated a guy who turned out to be her nephew. The stories he told about what a prima-donna witch she became after the show's success were horrendous. Most likely coke fueled.

Honestly, before Vardy and Co, if you had asked me what came to mind when someone said Leicester, I would not have had the first idea.

I'm just going to assume you don't mean Sherri dated her own nephew! Do you? :yikes:

Here's what I've gathered so far:
  • There is a city called Leicester.
  • Kasabian is a musician or band of some kind.
  • Leicester has a soccer team that did something that made them more popular on Twitter than some musician or band I've never heard of.

When I think of Leicester, I think of Leicester Square in London.

Bolded: won the Premiership for the first time ever. Comparable to your god-damned Superbowl, World Series or whatever the ****. Were recognised and crowned as the best team in the land. Came first in the highest league in English football. Beat teams who had spent hundreds of millions trying to win the title. Only came up from the lower divisions that season, were tipped for relegation back there, and ended up winning it. You may hate sports, but this was so huge a deal that it made news all over the world.

PS Forgot about "It's a Long Way to Tipperary"... :banghead: Still, I doubt Leicester Square is actually in Leicester. Monkey?

The highest league in all of English football! Good heavens, how could everyone on earth not have heard of this?

Just because you gather a few folks together with instruments and amperage, and just let them loose, doesn't make it music. Ok, ok. thinking along the lines of 4'33, I guess it can be called music.

But it's damn straight, some of the ****tiest 'music' I've ever listened to.

No, that was literally everything I understood based on your posts. After Trollheart's post I have a little bit more of an understanding.

A long time ago, I had a teacher who had a great expression about writing and assumptions: "what is perfectly obvious to you is perfectly obvious to you".
