You mean they have greater ugliness? Good call but it's not saying much.

Soccer is known as "futbol" World Wide, but in Italy they call it "calcio".

Cuthbert 09-27-2018 10:30 AM

The UK is the country with the longest official name.

Didn't know that. Now I do.

MicShazam 09-27-2018 10:38 AM

But Google say this:

"Search Results
Featured snippet from the web
Libya
Al Jumahiriyah al Arabiyah al Libiyah ash Shabiyah al Ishtirakiyah al Uzma also known as Libya is the world's longest country name at 74 characters with spaces and 63 characters without.May 18, 2003"

So they clearly only win on that technicality. "Official name".

Cuthbert 09-27-2018 10:41 AM

In English I mean.

BTW just found this - https://unterm.un.org/UNTERM/Display...8-896368359dd5

So it's "the State of Libya" now?

Enough mess going on in that country that they'll probably change the name a few times more before 2020.

It seems we hold the record for now.

Rule Britannia!

The Batlord 09-27-2018 11:01 AM

You hold the record in one language out of hundreds on Earth. Congratulations on your English nationalist victory.

A record is a record I'm afraid.

And we're not discussing England mate.

It's a fake record. Libya wins and your floating spitwad of a country is still mediocre.

Jews fleeing religious persecution in Portugal introduced it.

The singer in that clip, David Paton, played on Kate Bush's, The Kick Inside - including Wuthering Heights.

Today I learned that Freddie Mercury had 4 extra teeth on his upper jaw. :)

BassoonPlatoon 11-14-2018 10:51 AM

He never paid to have his teeth fixed because he believed it would adversely affect his singing/vocal range.

That sounds painful.

I have some form of hyperdontia myself. 2 teeth jutting up under my tongue, one on each side. The dentist said that they can't pull them because of the way that they are rooted. They're not in sockets, but seem to be a permanent extension of my jaw bone.

The first one didn't show itself until I was almost 20, then the second one revealed itself a few years later. They started as little bumps under the skin, then broke through [which was quite painful], then just kept growing. They are now larger than all of my other teeth. It's the damndest thing.

The Batlord 11-14-2018 04:42 PM

Getting there. They don't show any signs of stopping. It's a bit uncomfortable, as my tongue rests on them.

Chew on roots and stuff to grind them down or else they'll impale your brain.

Third person narration is when the narrator doesn't speak from their own perspective, but rather from an (often) omnipresent perspective of the situation as opposed to the first person where the narrator is speaking from their point of view. So saying that you've switched to third person suggests that when you made that particular remark, you were actually talking about yourself.

[MERIT] 11-14-2018 08:30 PM

I know what third person narration is. But I would characterize my post more as "Breaking the fourth wall," which is why your reply confused me.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was one of the first plastics discovered and it is generally what pipes are made of.
