God damn, India. I never know how to reconcile some of the terrible **** I hear out of India with how every Indian actually from India I've ever met is the nicest person in the world.

How Britain’s colonial legacy still affects LGBT politics around the world

Quote:

Theresa May, urged Commonwealth nations to reform existing anti-gay legislation held over from British colonial rule. And while stopping short of a formal apology, she used her speech to explicitly acknowledge Britian’s responsibility: “As the United Kingdom’s prime minister, I deeply regret both the fact that such laws were introduced and the legacy of discrimination, violence and death that persists today.”
Thanks, Britain!

How many musicians from the 50’s or earlier were queer that we you know of?

The first that comes to mind for me is Sister Rosetta Tharpe, one of the progenitors of rock music. She played gospel music with an electric guitar, and was an excellent artist. There is also a great deal of evidence that she was lesbian, or at least bisexual.

Any others out there? Any genre is great.

Little Richard is an obvious one.
