That's definitely at play, but I don't think it's as rampant as you make it out to be.

I don't know about you but if I'm having an argument with someone in real life it doesn't take long before I don't give a **** about their feelings.

We can have arguments and heated exchanges with people in our lives that we've known for a long time and have an intimate connection with. Normally even in those moments I would never think about stooping so low as to insult them. In this case, we have people who don't know each other intimately going after each other in a way that doesn't seem normal or wouldn't be in person.

Is what I'm getting at...

I can think of many people in my life who are quick to insult in a disagreement. Unfortunately.
