^ Good one, ziggywas - there couldn't be a more on-topic song. Genuine LOL.

I can almost smell the revolting low tide Thames stench just looking at that picture.

^ HaHa! And did you notice how disgustingly soft the mud can be? We used to throw stones into it as kids, just for that tingle of revulsion as the stone disappears into a sloppy, collapsing crater.

Two bridges over the river Tees in Northern England:-

In the second bridge, the so-called Big Blue, the yellow box sorry gondola can transport nine cars at a time.

What side of a bridge do suicides jump from? Statistically, they almost invariably go to the downstream side. (Thank you, Netflix series The Break for teaching me that.)

I was in London with a friend, some years ago, and we decided to stop by the Prospect of Whitby for a couple of pints. It was a beautiful, warm summer day so we thought it would be nice to have our drinks out on the back deck, overlooking the Thames. It turned out to be low tide and as soon as we opened the back door to the deck, we spun on our heels and retreated back inside from the foul odor.

And yes, that soft mud looks like it could swallow a person up and suck them under in an instant, never to be seen again.

^ HaHa! Well, you chose a very popular, very famous pub, and I like the photo you posted. Luckily the smell app on my computer isn't working, otherwise I could scratch and sniff your photo.

As with any riverside city, contamination is worse downstream. London's upstream pubs never had that prob in my experience. Check out your river cities, guys; you should find that for historical reasons, the factories and working-class areas are downstream, elegant residences upstream.

This incongruous trestle bridge traverses a local park. Freight trains crossing it are several lengths longer than the bridge so can take several minutes to cross it.
