All About Bridges
A well-designed bridge is a thing of great beauty, a soaring testament to the possibilities of engineering, but even if they don't particularly excite you of themselves, perhaps you'd like to contribute to this thread with songs that mention bridges, famous bridge scenes in movies, a funny thing happened to me on a bridge once etc.
^ This bridge is very attractive, and is a huge improvement on the previous design on the same site. Watch the short construction-nerd video and perhaps you'll be inspired to post a bridge you like too. |

https://allthatsinteresting.com/call-of-the-void - this is about all bridges are good for in my reality.

great! i really like thinking about music through various concepts.
this particular is a good one cuz a bridge can be both a great structure but it aslo bears a strong symbolic meaning... all that said heres a 90's classic. to be honest this was soooooo overplayed that i dont even have the courage of listening to it one more time. its a great song tho. its also the first song that came to my mind so i m going to put it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE |
Probably my all-time favorite film footage of a bridge...
Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse - Gallopin' Gertie (1940) |
^ Thanks for the input guys! Yes, that Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse is spectacular! I've watched it a few times - more times, in fact, than I've heard ziggywas's Chili Pepper recomendation. I don't know where it was an over-played classic, but it wasn't in my neighbourhood!
And for being on topic, what can trump the album entitled "Bridges" from rostasi? Well, how about a song in which a bridge is the lead instrument? |
The second tune on that "Bridges" album is "Song of the Wind" with the first verse being:
"Blow, wind, blow Further than a thousand wires Blow, wind, blow Transporter of the clouds Blow, wind, blow Fanner of a thousand fires, yeah Can't you see? That every place you go Well, the people got a need to understand Yes, some people want to know Won't you blow, wind, blow?" |
Live webcams of a couple of favorite, iconic bridges that I've walked and driven across multiple times in my travels over the years...

The best bridges:

Understandable.

was the only track I really liked. Perhaps I should replay Bridges and admit that GHS is entitled to his mellow and contented moments too. The above is partly why this is easily my favourite "bridge" song so far. Thanks for a great rec, ziggywas - I'll be checking out that album. :thumb: Quote:

Art Garfunkel is often overlooked because of Paul Simon's writing talents, but in this performance we can see that AG was a great singer. Despite your modest stage presence, Art Garfunkel, your time has come to shine:- |

Also, "anguish" and "outrage" don't have to necessarily be expressed in angry terms all the time. That album is still filled with messaging and hope amidst his fervent dislike for many social inequalities. |
Another live cam view of a couple more bridges I've ridden across multiple times over the years...

And here's a bridge that I've walked over and under multiple times. The Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, TX. Home to an estimated 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats...
https://i.ibb.co/N2y3TCD/CAB.jpg https://i.ibb.co/yg1spGR/CABU.jpg You can hear the bats squeaking/chattering unseen, overhead, as you walk underneath the bridge. |
The Deutzer Brücke in Köln is a rather mundane bridge, but my interest
(and the interest of other experimental composers) is in the sound-imaging that you get from the three large empty rooms located in the concrete hollow body of the bridge. I've been encouraged by a rep for the City of Köln to consider doing a work for this space and so it's been one of a number of projects I've been working on. http://stasick.org/030501.jpg Here's a video (in German) about this ongoing series of installations. This was made for the 20th anniversary: |

@ Psy-Fi :That Boston bridge live stream has more action in evidence that the previous, and I stayed to watch a train go by. Cool.

__________________________________________________ ___________________ London has lots of bridges, including these two which I used to cross on a v regular basis for many years. I was lucky enough to live one block beyond the right-hand side of the picture and caught my train to work, to the city centre, from the left-hand side of the river. Good times:- http://jeffreyjayepictures.co.uk/ima...ybridgeed2.jpg Unfortunately, this song by Fergie is not the celebration of London's engineering heritage that I'd hoped for:- |

i dont really like this track and this whole album is kinda weak but i have great respect for sage francis (especially since i saw him live once upon a time) and this is about london bridge so:

^ That's actually a picture of Tower Bridge, not London Bridge, though.

heres another one from 1/2 mazzy star's great albums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwVXkM_YxMg |
^ Good choice!
I saw a double-bill, back in the day, featuring Mazzy Star and Cocteau Twins. Mazzy Star were the opening act. One of the few times when an opener was not only worth seeing but was every bit as good as the headlining act. |

this sounds like a great gig! here's another bridge-track. i think its the last one i got :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BX84VcKpcQ |
I really liked the bridge with bats, the bridge to Nowhere, Iowa and the bridge with acoustic secrets. :thumb:

Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge - Four Years of Construction in Two Minutes |

and this isnt an overall bad record mind you, just usually not worth mentioning. but in this context here, its got its place! |
^ The "Bridges to Babylon" tour was better than the album. I saw them a couple of nights when they brought it to the US. They changed it to the "No Security" tour for the US dates but it was still the same tour, just with a different name.
|
i think i remember reading about it. it was the tour where at some point they went off the huge stage and played on a small one, no?
its funny how back then everyone thought they are too old to be doing this stuff. now 20 years later they....still doing this stuff :) and also anyone whos at their age of that time is.....doing this stuff :)) |
a strange thing about the digital era is that sometimes you hear a record and never see its cover. well usually you see it one way or another but not always. that happenned to me with this record by the wooden shjips called west. i have listened to it many times but never seen his cover until yesterday. occulthawk talked about it somewhere and posted its cover and guess what? its a bridge!

The first time I drove across the Golden Gate Bridge I thought it was so cool I did a u turn and crossed it twice again just for the **** of it and that was after road tripping all the way from Reno.
