Further than a thousand wires
Blow, wind, blow
Transporter of the clouds
Blow, wind, blow
Fanner of a thousand fires, yeah
Can't you see?
That every place you go
Well, the people got a need to understand
Yes, some people want to know
Won't you blow, wind, blow?"

^ Nice lyrics, though the one time I listened to Bridges, I was a bit disappointed. That's prob down to me for putting GSH into a pigeon-hole labelled Anguish/Outrage: that's why We Almost Lost Detroit
was the only track I really liked. Perhaps I should replay Bridges and admit that GHS is entitled to his mellow and contented moments too.

The above is partly why this is easily my favourite "bridge" song so far. Thanks for a great rec, ziggywas - I'll be checking out that album. :thumb:

@ Psy-Fi and mindfulness: thanks for the vids of Bridge Porn! Here are some more sexy bridge pinups. They are literally superlative, being the first bridge ever made out of cast iron (Shropshire, 1781) and what I believe is the tallest bridge in the world:

Finally, I feel like this is the elephant in the room that no-one is mentioning: prob the best-selling song ever with "bridge" in the title. Art Garfunkel is often overlooked because of Paul Simon's writing talents, but in this performance we can see that AG was a great singer. Despite your modest stage presence, Art Garfunkel, your time has come to shine:-

You do know that I was making a connection to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse, right?

Also, "anguish" and "outrage" don't have to necessarily be expressed in angry terms all the time.
That album is still filled with messaging and hope amidst his fervent dislike for many social inequalities.

Another live cam view of a couple more bridges I've ridden across multiple times over the years...

Quote:

This live cam is located on Charles River Dam Bridge, on Charles River, the river crossing the city centre of Boston, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. In the foreground, you see Lechmere Viaduct adjacent to Charles River Dam Road, in the background, the iconic Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge with cable towers, after North Point Park. Boston Museum of Science is on the right-hand side of the image.

And here's a bridge that I've walked over and under multiple times. The Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, TX. Home to an estimated 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats...

You can hear the bats squeaking/chattering unseen, overhead, as you walk underneath the bridge.

The Deutzer Brücke in Köln is a rather mundane bridge, but my interest
(and the interest of other experimental composers) is in the sound-imaging
that you get from the three large empty rooms located in the concrete hollow
body of the bridge. I've been encouraged by a rep for the City of Köln to
consider doing a work for this space and so it's been one of a number of
projects I've been working on.

Here's a video (in German) about this ongoing series of installations.
This was made for the 20th anniversary:

@ Psy-Fi :That Boston bridge live stream has more action in evidence that the previous, and I stayed to watch a train go by. Cool.

London has lots of bridges, including these two which I used to cross on a v regular basis for many years. I was lucky enough to live one block beyond the right-hand side of the picture and caught my train to work, to the city centre, from the left-hand side of the river. Good times:-

Unfortunately, this song by Fergie is not the celebration of London's engineering heritage that I'd hoped for:-
