Well thanks for the input everyone, maybe I call her via Snapchat phone call around one month of talking. Then video chats after that.

Yeah, you can tell a lot from facial expressions in a video chat that you wouldn't get over the phone. For example, you can tell if they're actively interested in the conversation (rather than browsing MusicBanter while they talk), you can tell if they're lying about something (eye contact, blinking, etc.), you can tell what their mood is, and of course, you can be much more persuasive with a video chat as opposed to a phone call.

Do both

Yeah once you know someone well enough you should be able to tell if they're lying or if they're engaged in the conversation without having to see their facial expressions.

My girl and I also send a lot of voice messages. Sometimes short ones just to say hi or to share about our day, sometimes longer ones pontificating on some topic or another that we'll take notes on and then respond to lol, some real nerd ****. It's just more personal, and often more convenient than facetime or whatever. We're two hours apart now so still get to see each other on weekends, but in April she's moving to NC for a year so I'll soon be an expert in long distance relationships and will pass on any tips I come across lol.

Anyway, voice messages is really good advice. More personal than text, but less scary early on than call/vid. Speaking of which, someone should revive the mb voice thread |
