There was once a kid who wanted to play football. During halftime he was told to hit the field. Later he was disappointed to learn that both teams had gone home and he was out there all alone.

I’ve seen that before. I guess that means they should just pray.

I mean the implication that the brain should be ignored when dealing with mental health doesn’t even deserve a rebuttal.

Nobody is saying the brain should be ignored. Again, your whole problem is you take a reductive approach to everything. Brain scans are relevant. That doesn't mean everything is going to be learned through brain scans.

Without brain imaging there’s no impartial method for diagnosing mental illness or monitoring progress.

Mental health advocacy has to be centered on physiological understanding of neural circuitry and mental illness must not be treated by mystics who differentiate between the psychological and the physiological. If the technology is insufficient then it should be all hands on deck to get it where it needs to be. The current state of affairs with patients self-diagnosing and medicine prescribed with no attempt to follow up from a physiological standpoint is disastrous and outdated by at least a century.

I read two pages and then jumped forward to see that the conversation was exactly the same because it's one of those things where OH beats on his chest and just says he's absolutely right and if you don't agree you're an idiot.

If you don't know the difference between being born with bipolar because it was in your gene pool and getting bipolar because of extreme trauma then you're just a doofus. It's all natural and biology and you can even make the case with the under researched topic of generational trauma that they play into each other but there is still a clear difference between inherited traits and learned traits. Pretending otherwise is harmful.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

I get the point that it doesn't really matter when it comes to treating it, but it kind of does matter in preventing it.

Go back and read what I wrote about your ACE scores and how it should be addressed.

**** it. Here it is again.

I’m the only one saying anything that advocates for proper treatment of the mentally ill.

Imaging. You take person who has been abused, neglected, and or subjected poverty and you scan their brain to discover what’s up. You don’t just use ghost work mysticism you look at the actual biology.

What’s your ace score?

Here’s a practical application

Identify children at high risk for a high ace score. Use advanced imaging technology to get a picture of their brains. Correct the problematic situations and monitor the biological development of the brain and learn how to steer a course away from cognitive dysfunction where you actually monitor the source of cognition which is obviously the brain.

Whatever sorts of CBT or mindfulness meditation or changes in diet and exercise or medicine and every combination in between brain structure has to be monitored so we’re not caspering this **** with ethereal ghost theories. Any **** rhetoric that lends itself to false intuitive beliefs that emotions and behavior are intangible need to be dropped because it perpetuates the unproductive thinking that keeps real solutions out of reach. If neural plasticity and new neural pathways are supposedly being created proof through imaging should be the standard.

And yes I do think there’s a link between this language that pretends there’s a separation or dichotomy between nature and nurture is archaic, ignorant, and harmful.

Whether the behavior is homophobia, transphobia, violence, or acceptance, generosity, love - it’s all biological- it’s all brain function: language that suggests some force outside of or separate from nature or behavior that is not instinctual is counter productive.
Honestly

**** off. All of you. If you’re struggling with bipolar you should ****ing know how antiquated our approach to dealing with it is.
