I am from London, a few places you might want to check out are:

The Worlds End - Pub - Camden - great rock/metal pub! Also at 10/11pm the downstairs opens up 'The Underworld', which is a good metal club, they have gigs there too.

Black Heart - Pub - Camden - a proper dive bar, not far from Camden tube station, you might need google maps to find it though.

Bacchus - bar/club - Kingston Upon Thames - each night is a different genre of music, gets some decent crowds and is usually a good night, the drum and bass night always used to be the one to go to.

Werkhaus - Gig venue - Brick Lane - really cool little venue, gets some decent bands, cheap drinks for a gig venue, worth a visit

Fabric - Club - Farringdon - It's fabric, it's one of the best clubs in London and well worth a visit. It is NOT cheap though!

Hi Andrew! Always good to see a Londoner here. Welcome to MB.
Perhaps we should mention to Mucha that Kingston-on-Thames is quite a way outside the city. More accessible would be The Half Moon, Putney. I assume it's still going as it was one of the best organised music-every-night pubs around. I once saw Roger Waters there - not playing, just sitting at a table on his own over a pint of beer. I was too cool to stop, but my friend went over and was rebuffed with these words from the great man; "Can't you see that I'd much rather be left alone?"

Is Kingston-On-Thames the original city that gave name to Kingston, Jamaica? It was the British who invaded/discovered the island?

I'm rather a person who likes long trips, if they're worth it. So init don't matter much to me whether a place is far away or just nearby. Still, thanks for a heads-up that it'll be a long one.

I'm not familiar with any of the London boroughs/areas, but there's still at least a year to go.

The Who I last saw at Wimbledon Palais, South of London...
London Clubs would be 100 club or the Marquee..both closed for many years now..
If Travelling around then SW of England is good...
Beer a place not the drink.
Very Good but depends on what you wish to see...

London Markets from the Internet as I have no knowledge of the present day London....been away from London when I
moved to a place called Bexhill On Sea in 2000..that location is not far from Brighton or Dover

I don't know for sure, but it's possible. Then again, the name just means "King's Town" so it would be understandable if the old-time Brits just used the name repeatedly as they went around colonizing.
Kingston-on-T is a nice enough but hardly spectacular place, and the Jamaica one is not "New Kingston", which was often done when naming places after the English original: New York, etc, etc.

I was using the word "far" the way a Londoner uses it when looking for a night out. (= you can't get there by tube, you have to go on an overground train - maybe 20 mins away from the center, which I now confess doesn't sound far away at all.)

How much would you say living in London costs on a monthly basis?

Like food cost, low-rent apartment, some weed and a pint of beer every now and then?

It was really a good place to live when we moved there in 2000.
Then my Daughter followed us and we had to search around for a lowish price House for the 3 of them...That opened my eyes to the fairly new Housing Estates of Hastings..property was even cheaper there.
Rough it was....not the coastal Hastings that I had known most of my life.
Bexhill did not seem to have those Housing Estates, although a few metres from where we lived in Pebsham, it was originally a council estate but now with a lot privately owned. Ours was Pebbles at the end of Pebsham Lane and we adjoined the Pebsham Farm so really felt like we were in the Countryside.
Was an unmade Lane and then the big boys moved in and built some houses opposite ours[was woods wild and beautiful, badgers roaming and other wildlife, foxes where only a problem to us because he had Ducks and Chickens]...The owner of the land had to pay for street lighting and Mr. Tarmac as well.
A new waterways was installed at the far side of the land, it was a pond and a stream before that as the land was a flood plain..
We then seriously thought about a move...but we done well to stay there as long as we did...We needed to live in a quiet enviourment so had no intention of going back to Spain..France it had to be...
All changing now though around where we lived.....Farm almost all industrial now and the area being swamped with 1200 new properties...Tip of the iceberg.
The new bypass has eased the coast road a great deal, but has taken out more and more green land.....
Bexhill famous for being the Birthplace of British Motor Racing...
https://www.discoverbexhill.com/hist...tor-racing.php
Sad day when they stopped the Bexhill 100 Festival of Motoring...
Yes it turned out the best move for us and would likely not step back to the UK ever, although we never say never about anything now!
