Because anyone who giggles at someone reading Pratchett or Martin is either not particularly well read or just retarded.

Huh...well, it was short but rather unimpressive and anticlimactic. Le Guin's The word for world is forest covers similar territory, only much much better.

^ I've been meaning to read that for a while now. Have you read anything else by him?

Of course...

@storymilo: Nope, this is my first Gaiman, I'm really excited about it, especially because Chabon sings its praises on that cover.

Yeah I've read Neverwhere and it was really good, definitely a step above most fantasy.

Ha! yeah, you know if I die tomorrow that will be my one regret. As if theres a hierarchy within "books."

I'm shocked you can read as much as you do with your head that far up your ass.

Was one of my favourite novels when I first read it, but has slipped a bit down my list. Very good though.

^American Gods is good, but I though the idea was better than the execution. I don't think Gaiman managed to communicate everything what was on his mind that well when he wrote it and the story lacks direction, I think. It has a B movie feel to it, I think .. and it's 90s cheesy as hell, but that's what you want from Gaiman.

Still a good book and well worth a read, but I wouldn't rate it among my favourites.

I'm reading the latest Discworld novel, Unseen Academicals.

It's about football and the story revolves around the Unseen University.

What's sad about Terry Pratchett is that a while ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease. This book is dedicated to Rob Wilkins who, it says, typed most of it so I think he might be getting help writing his books nowadays.

Hopefully, he'll manage to keep it up though. I love that man.

^ That's sadd about him getting diagnosed with Alzheimers, I hadn't heard about that.

Have you read The Wee Free Men?
