A Middle East Mosaic by Bernard Lewis. It's a compilation of extracts of writing from both western and eastern civilizations about the middle east and islamic culture from biblical references all the way to modern day diplomats and everything in between. It's really interesting.

I know it's beyond being a cliche to say that the book is so much better than the movie, but seriously this actually does blow the Will Smith flick outta' the water. It's hard to believe that the book was written almost 60 years ago.
