One of the handful of books I've ever read in a single sitting. Great stuff.

It's great so far. How did you feel about his situation? I'm torn between being jealous and envying his zest for life and ability to leave things in natures hands, and thinking he was pretty stupid and naive and possibly a bit crazy (although I don't really think he was crazy). We had a really heated discussion about this at my book club on Sunday.

I definitely think he was misguided, naive and extremely self-centered. He's actually lucky he didn't die sooner considering the number of dumb things he did. I really feel bad for his parents.

An interesting contrast to him is Richard Proenneke who did something similar but actually knew what he was doing. Proenneke retired to the Alaskan wilderness when he was 58, where he built is own cabin by hand and lived until he was 82 years old. There's a book about him, which I haven't read, but I saw a documentary about him a while back called Alone in the Wilderness which is well worth watching.

Apparently this got taken from a school because a parent complained it was pornographic. So far it only shows some idea of the main girl being sexually confused.

Finished To Kill a Mockingbird, probably the only book I've ever read for school that I enjoyed.

Animal Farm is great literature. Orwell has a way of using imagery in his words to really move you. One of my favorites of the classics we had to read in school.
