Hey, by the time you finish them they may have just released the final book, so good timing on that one :P I'm facing having to read the entire series (or bits of it at least) for a 5th time, having had to do the same for the release of every one since Winter's Heart... I will say that one of them, around the 5th or 6th, is by far the worst. It drags immensely and was particularly annoying for some reason. If you find yourself enjoying it up to a particular phase of one of the books, it's worth powering through, as it does pick up again.

As for myself:

It was decided that we are going to Greece for a week in September, at which point I was presented with this book (having not really liked the TV adaptation that was done of it) and told that I HAD to read it before we went. So, begrudgingly, I picked it up... and I've loved it. It's such a wonderfully eclectic mix of relatively good-natured reserved English-family arguing (hyphens inserted for the sanity of any readers), and wonderfully.. accessible natural biology. Being written from the perspective of a young boy who grew up to be a rather distinguished natural historian and biologist, it is enlightening how his simple but insatiable appetite for seeing how animals live and interact started, as much as it is mind-boggling how he didn't get hurt more often, or even more confusing, how on earth his mother managed to pay for the lifestyle they led!

The humour of the author's childhood and his perspective of his family, combined with great characters, a simple and forthright narrative, and an evocative atmosphere of a lazy yet lively Corfu makes for a fantastic read.

In my humble opinion, at least :P

so far it is boring as hell
The first book is the hardest to get through. Funny because it's the shortest. But if you stick with it you will not be disappointed my friend. Each book got better and better.

Excited for both of us. I promise not to spoil anything for you now that I know someone else is reading.

I am halfway through book 5 of the Wheel of Time (The Fires of Heaven), and have suffered the first major disappointment, in the form of

Spoiler for Spoilerz:
The totally uncalled for romantic development between Rand and Aviendha. I have no objection to the match that was made, but the way it was written was just sloppy. The two characters argue for months, then out of the blue (through a suspiciously deus ex application of the One Power), they find themselves humping in a blizzard more or less by accident, as if the enormous derailment of character were somehow excused by the fact that it was a spontaneous result of a rescue attempt, after which Rand offers to marry her in a moment completely absent of emotion ("Whoops, sorry about that, looks like we have to get married now"). I just can't accept that he, thus far portrayed as a complete gentleman would piss on propriety, or that she, who lives and dies by the customs and honour of her people would betray an oath spoken to her near-sister.

The whole chapter was just ****ing ridiculous. Jordan should never have dabbled in physical romance, particularly when he's skirted around romance at all up until this ill-conceived chapter, not to mention how dubiously it leans on the Power as a solution or catalyst for the plot development.

Quit ****ing around man, and get back to the storytelling.

I was thinking about getting the 50 Shades deal. Maybe not. She who will be obeyed might not like it(or she might

To whoever was talking about King's "Dark Tower" series being difficult to get through... just tough it out through the first one. They are amazing.
