I'm a bit obsessed with those "1001 ___ You Must ___ Before You Die" books. They're absolutely perfect for light reading. I've read Movies, Albums, Songs, Historic Sites, Days That Shaped The World, and I just picked up Natural Wonders.

Both good books though I felt like House of Leaves didn't really add up to much in the end.

I felt like I missed something the first time I read House of Leaves so I'm planning to read it again, but each story at a time, instead of alternating between Traunt's footnotes and Zamponos write up on the Navidson Record. Also, I still haven't read the Index, The Whalestoe letters or look at any of the codes throughout the book, which apparently sheds some light on some of the characters.

On the face of it though, it still a great psychological horror. Stayed up six in the morning reading it since I was too scared to go to sleep.

Vertigo's "Daytripper"

pretty fucking amazing stuff from Moon & Ba.

LoathsomePete 07-19-2011 05:03 PM

Oooo that looks quite interesting, and it's on the Vertigo imprint so you know it's gonna be full of violence, nudity, swearing, and one or more characters have hilariously unfortunate accidents happen to them. That is now on my list of comics to read.

I picked up these two books from a thrift store today for .75 cents a piece

The Myth of Sisyphus and other essays by Albert Camus

I've been meaning to read this for quite some time now, it's just a shame I didn't get it earlier or else I could bring it up at a philosophy club meeting tomorrow with one of my old professors. I quite enjoyed Camus' other major work on existentialism, The Stranger so I'm interested in what his take on the old myth and how he relates it to existentialism.

Shadowland by Peter Straub

Honestly this is more a novel I bought for the cover than anything else. I've never been a big Peter Straub fan because if I want to read a ghost story I'll go back to M.L. James. Problem is though I've worked my way through most of Clive Barkers good stuff already this summer so there's not a lot of big name horror left that I'm not already familiar with. Maybe it will be decent.

If you're interested in ghost stories, Rhoald Dahl put together a collection of stories which I found pretty creepy/enjoyable.

Anybody know any good books about the neuroscience of deja vu, time perception, or synesthesia?
