Finished this a week ago, I thought I'd jump into HP Lovecraft with this book because of little knowledge of Call of Cthulu. Really exhilarating short story, the hotel portion had me pretty tense throughout.

I'm only a few chapters in this one, Cage always struck me as asexual, but oh god he was quite the opposite. He really was like a kid with his head up in the clouds though from what I've read so far.

Probably one of the more interesting sci-fi works I've read. I'm not exactly finished though, but I'm only a chapter away from finishing it. I really like this book's take on what would possibly happen if an alien civilization were to visit us. We always view aliens as having humanistic qualities, but what if they didn't even take notice to us? This novel poses such ego destroying concepts, dabbles in a bit of xenology, mind bending consequences of the visitation of an alien civilization, and lots of drinking (It was written by Russians, so of course there is nothing but drinking).

I've been wanting to read this one for a while since I'm such a huge fan of Stalker, which is based off of Roadside Picnic. I'm a little more tempted to check it out now. That Cage book looks interesting as well.

I'd suggest picking up the penguin books Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories if you're interested in reading more from Lovecraft. It has a pretty good spread of Lovecraft's work and some really good notes and explanations in the back.

Just finished Kafka on The Shore by Haruki Murakami and now on to The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera.

I've tried to read this one a few times and really struggle to follow the story, but in parts, his writing is just...

Spoiler for not really a spoiler, but just in case:
“Anyone whose goal is 'something higher' must expect someday to suffer vertigo. What is vertigo? Fear of falling? No, Vertigo is something other than fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.”
Daaaaayum.

I'm not a literature nerd at all. Out of all of the major art/entertainment mediums, it's the one that I'm the least interested in at the moment. So I'm not exactly sure why I decided to check this behemoth of a novel out from my university's library (aside from hearing some friends praise it and having my interest piqued a little bit).

I have a feeling that my disinterest in the medium might change soon, though, as I ****ing love this.

Well you are a better man than I. Got about 30 pages in and realized I had no idea what was going on. Eff that effing book. Made me feel stupid.

^I know the feeling. I've got nothing against reading I just find it hard to sit still for so long so after a couple pages or so I end up forgetting what's going on and thinking about recipes or music.

It's strange how it works out like that- people always seem to have preferred mediums.
