Thinking about giving Asimov's "Prelude to Foundation" a whirl. It's been sitting on one of my bookshelves collecting dust since 2005.

Silverthorn by Raymond E. Feist

Ended up finishing Magician: Apprentice last night and quickly put the followup on my iPad. While there were some major pacing issues towards the last 150 pages or so where years went by each chapter, I did like how they started to develop some of background characters more. It did seem a little strange though, as the main character Pug was really the only one we got to see, minus two chapters, and then he's just abandoned at the end of the second act. In either case I'm not as concerned as these books are huge and there's only three of them, but it was a little odd, and makes me wonder if that's why there's two versions of the book.

In The Presence Of My Enemies, by Gracia Burnham. Martin and Gracia Burnham were missionaries in the Philippines from 1986 to 2001, when they were kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf, an Islamic extremist group. This is the account of the year of the captivity, along with many other kidnapped Filipinos. The "adventure" unfortunately ended with Martin being shot to death, so Gracia had to write the book alone.

I just started this book, and the first think I notice is that Ms. Burnham is in no way a writer. The writing style is very immature, but I can accept that. She was a missionary, not a novelist. The story does look like it will be an interesting one, as I see the various kidnappees and how they survive in the jungle with their kidnappers.

Currently reading Anne Franks diary (no idea which version) and I'm around mid 1943. They've been in the annex a while now and it's beginning to get pretty boring for me. It's kind of same ****, different day. Anyone know if it'll pick up?

I'm reading "Your name's at the door" history of aussie rock. It was given to me but I was told I am in it. Can't find me at all. I think there's a guy called ben who did stuff i did.

I wouldn't recommend it...boring as batchit...usual we had a gig there was a riot ho feckin hum

Rabbit, Run by John Updike

I believe he has won a Pulitzer prize for some books in this series. Kick-ass book so far.

Just finished Sophie's Choice and eee-gads was it depressing. I think the choice totally sucks.

The Brothers Neville, by... The Brothers Neville. Just started this. It looks promising. A very unique look, not just at the music of the brothers, but at the fascinating lives and culture of African Americans in Louisiana in a very, very volatile time (the brothers were all born in the 30's or 40's). It's being written in interview forum, so it's not gonna be a hard read... I probably won't be getting through it too quickly, though. It's a thick book and I have other stuff I need to do, and other books I'm slowly reading.

Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn

First book in the Tales of Otori trilogy and one of the few fantasy novels I've seen that has taken it's primary inspiration from more of a Feudal Japan era of history rather than the Medieval Europe we're mostly stuck with.
