What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

One could say the same thing with books. Heck, one could say the same with toys, and look at The Lego Movie, Mars Attacks, and I'm gonna throw this in there... Hot Wheels World Race was actually pretty good for a TV kid's movie. And the first Transformers was pretty good.

I heard Lionsgate got their hands on a Monopoly movie.

No you can't. A book is much more like a movie than a video game, and the Lego Movie was good because it used Lego as a way to explore wider topics. Very poor comparison.

And Batty, you know Alone in the Dark is a classic.

I have very much been meaning to watch that. Also to play the first game. Thank god for DOSBox, an actual MS DOS emulator.

OK, so video games have stories, characters, settings, and plots. So do books. Toys, I cna understand. Oh, by the way, you might want to look up Metal Gear Solid Philanthropy, which is said to be one of the best fanfilms ever made.

If you're going to say toys are better suitable for making movies, that really doesn't make any sense. The reason why video games are often poorly adapted are because they are usually geared towards fans and made by fans. In terms of 90's movies like Mario or Double Dragon or Street Fighter, it was extremely hard to capture the fictional feel of the games because they were taking a more realistic approach or because the movie was an official one made by fans who got the rights and have had little to no moviemaking experience, hence bad directing, casting, and special effects.

Still, I'd say Prince of Persia was actually quite good. Never played the games, but an enjoyable enough adventure. Could've been better, but also way worse. The only toys I can think of that has a series and a full on plot geared towards fans is Bionicle. Lego had to invent its own story for the Lego Movie, and it made constant pop culture referrences due to Lego's connections with other franchises they can sell as Legos, like DC, Star Wars, LOTR, and Ninja Turtles.

There's a reason why there are more popular video game movies than toy movies (unless you count direct to video kids movie series like Barbie or Hot Wheels, which really don't get enough notoriety to be considered good or bad). The video game these days have the capability to use CGi and other moviemaking aspects to try to make an official movie. Still, most of them are simple money grabs, so that was really what these movies are sadly going for. I will say this, Bratz: The Movie gets a far worse reputation than any video game movier I can think of, even Super Mario Bros. So there's that.

As a bit of a sidebar: What's your favorite movie that contains the word DARK in its title?

The Dark Knight would be an easy off the top of the head pick but I'm going with Dark City.

I didn't say toys were more suitable. I said I don't care if a movie accurately depicts a video game because when they try to hard to gear the movie towards fans of the games it ends up being a steaming pile of **** for anybody who isn't a fan of the game. I think toys are a different conversation because again, they are different than a video game, as are books. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions either, but as a general rule most video game movies don't fair very well.
