He hasn't really done anything good after They Live.

Village of the Damned was so horrible, I couldn't believe Carpenter actually directed that.

Hehe, They Live is okay. What I remember aside from the funny faces and the wonderful scene where he's in the bank and gives his bubblegum line is the ridiculously macho 1-on-1 fight in the back alley. It's like 5 minutes of them taking turns slugging eachother in the face.

I haven't seen Village of the Damned, but his Ghosts of Mars movie was certainly forgettable. I also saw Vampires once, but can't remember much of that one either, not a good sign. In the Mouth of Madness looks and sounds quite exciting, though. A horror writer's fiction coming true - or is it all just in his mind? Or something like that.

I'm not actually too worried about the quality of the film when it comes to acting, plot holes etc. as long as the movie is entertaining. This one looks like it might be, although as you point out there are reasons to be sceptical.

I don't know why I feel slightly ashamed in admitting that I really liked it.

^ I saw that. Can't stand Michael Cera in anything, but Kat Dennings is nice.

That movie is awesome.

I freaking love that fight scene, it's hilarious, it just dragged on and on, but that's what made it memorable.

PUT THE GLASSES ON!

South Park even paid homage to it with the infamous cripple fight episode.

love classic Carpenter, will have to seek all these out. I thought 'Vampires' was passible by virtue of the James Woods factor, still his lack of inspiration over the last couple of decades is demoralizing, hope he makes one more great film before he pops his clogs

Aw, you can't stand Cera? I love him, and I'm a huge fan of Kat Dennings too so I think that's what made it for me.
