Very much true to Welsh's vernacular than Trainspotting but it's a messy film. It perfectly encapsulates the book but I should imagine it would be best seen whilst on the same drugs as many of the characters.

Definitely worth a watch though. The director went on to make Gangster No. 1 and Lucky Number Slevin which are decent films too.

I was a little surprised that they used "A Soft Touch" as one of their stories and not "Eurotrash" which I think would have made a far better (and funnier) short story. It definitely feels more like an Irvine Welsh project, but he wrote the screen play so he had far more creative control over the dialogue. Definitely is a messy film though... but there's a certain charm to it that I can't help but at least admire.

The scene where Boab met God in the pub was so well done too, easily my favorite scene in the film.

It was alright,standard enough Jason Statham vehicle.The 70's setting did a lot for it but on the whole fairly unmemorable stuff.

Gloriously enjoyable schlock.Very well directed and Spacek makes it work when it really shouldn't.

pretty great. its use of colours and music created this hauntingly melancholy atmosphere. the dialogue at time was very sparse, and the cinematography is fantastic. 4/5

Cowboys & Aliens

Wow...I had major high hopes for this one. Not that it would be the next Oscar winner or anything, but that it might at least be cheesy or just outlandish enough to make it awesome, like "Snakes on a Plane" (yes, I loved that movie). It was neither outlandish or dramatic...it was just there. Nothing was explained, not even really half ass explained. The actors were neither fantastic or incredibly bad. The aliens seemed to be a mixed breed of animatronics from "District 9" and the "Alien" movies. Basically it was half-baked all around. Boo.

This was a fantastic watch. It was very suspenseful and the soundtrack did so much for the suspense. I loved every minute of it, and when I saw the second monolith I nearly shit bricks. The ending was left ambiguous and open, making me wonder and keeping it stuck in my head. I love movies where things are left open ended because when you have movies that try and explain the mysteries of the universe/life it ends up stupid and contrived. Kubrick is an amazing director, I would put him over any of popular directors today.

^ I was actually listening to the Space Odyssey soundtrack a few hours ago. It's been years since I've seen the actual film but I must download it sometime soon. The soundtrack works really well as a standalone album but I guess you have to watch the film as well to get the full experience.

Sometimes I really hate to blindly agree with the populace and some so called classic films just don't do anything for me but I watched this film last around six months ago and it still blew me away as much as the first time watching it over 20 years ago.

Even if the subject matter is not to everyone's taste, it is still a mind blowing piece of cinema that holds up easily. The use of music, edits, effects and imagery is virtuoso film making at it's finest and I am not that big a Kubrick fan either.

There are only a handful of films that are beautiful to watch and this is definitely right up there. Gives me an idea for a thread :)

I read a few reviews which said that this was a masterpiece, so I decided to watch it. I shouldn't have done that. This movie is AWFUL. Everything in it is horrible - the story, the acting and the directing. One of the worst movies I have ever seen.
