I think Session 9 is vastly superior to The Machinist. Probably my favourite haunted house movie ever. The tension in that film that is screaming to get out is palpable from the start yet Anderson retains admirable constraint from showing anything approaching trad. horror cliches apart from one scene. Everything is built upon the characters and film setting. Superb movie.

not exactly the "masterpiece of Cold War paranoia" I was promised, but still a genuinely good thriller, almost Hitchcock-ian. Granted the villains are hokey and stereotypical, there is a sense of ominous dread and helplessness as the main protagonists cannot control their minds. It sags in the middle a bit but the climax is still the best I've seen. And the remake has got nothing on this, completely ignoring the complex layers of plot and subtext. And pretty awesome performances by Sinatra, Laurence Harvey and Angela Lansbury. Definitely one of the best Cold war films around. 9/10

pure rubbish but still enjoyable on the level of mindless popcorn fare. I remember the comics Jonah Hex being much uglier. Rather than using the normal scaled-down heroes and villains of most Westerns, this one goes macro and goes on a National "save the Union from the Confederates level", which I find crappy. The action is still well-directed, although the weapons are way too "modern" for a Western. Still rip-roaring, though. 5.5/10

Saw this movie last night at 12:01 a.m. and I have to say it was ****ing fantastic! It was well paced and while there were some similarities to the 80's remake (it makes sense since the monster is the same), it certainly takes you to new places visually and story-wise.

I don't wanna say to much because I don't want to spoil this film for anyone, but a lot of people die and it's awesomely gruesome.

This is one of the few really old movies I've seen that I enjoyed. I really liked this, it was creepy as hell. 8/10

i was a bit torn on this......i wasn't expecting it to be as good as Carpenter's "The Thing"....but i have to admit i was really looking forward to a good suspenseful scare.....and this just lacked that in every way......the sense of isolation and despondency that Carpenter captured in his version was just not here.....so no scares with this one

on the other hand the movie itself was great.....as abearmauledme said...the pacing was spot on...seriously not a wasted second in this flick.....and while staying true to the format (and in may weird ways the story)....it really stands on its own.....i thought i would hate the cg effects.....but they were not nearly as bad as i thought they would be....and in all honesty looked very much like the true effects used in the 1982 classic.....my only complaint was the connection between the two (i'll say no more)

so if you're looking for a great gory monster flick with plenty of jump out of your seat scares.....this is a perfect movie....

i'll be seeing it again i think



edit....saw it again today and loved it.....

^I'm glad someone else appreciated this movie. So far all the reviews I've seen have been absolutely horrible. I think it has a 49 on metacritic. It's not revolutionary or anything, but it definitely deserves to be in the 80's IMO.

I was definitely not expecting it to be so bleak, but damn I loved it. Daniel Day Lewis was fantastic. Now the only other movie I've been really wanting to see is The Inside Job.

this biopic about an autistic woman whose life goal has been the fair and humane treatment of livestock was so much more than what i bargained for.....HBO did it again....assembling an amazing cast and re-telling an amazing story of a truly remarkable human being....by the end of this film i was dehydrated :)
