i agree 100% with Jackhammer on this.....you really have to take giallo/horror at face value.....and i'm sorry but in my humble opinion nobody does it better than Argento......that scene where the girl is running through the forest and the amazing Goblin soundtrack is playing....is still to date one of my favorite scenes in any horror film.....the first killing and the shot the proceeds it is still one of the best ever made.....people have written entire thesises (plural for thesis?) on the scene where the dog attacks the blind man.....concentrating on the plot is just as bad as trying to figure out why there would be a random room full of razor wire at a school of dance :).....Suspiria to me is just wonderful eye heroin

bob, it wasn't so much that I was concerned about the little oddities that was occurring but I wanted the know the main fact why they wanted her died. After being taken on that wild ride of odd things happening here and there. I would have at least liked something to wrap it up or a slight explanation. Yes, the eye candy was nice but I just wanted more from it.

Paranoid 1.0 (2004)

So here's a pretty original sci-fi psychological thriller with a cyberpunk feel to it. The cinematography is amazing with a good use of shadows and dark colours to create an uncomfortable setting. The acting is pretty decent too, with an eclectic cast of characters that fill social roles, but not in a stereotypical way. The story is a little.... well it's not bad by any stretch but this definitely isn't the type of movie you'll want to see if you like things explained to you. The story lacks the proper back story to make full use of the cyberpunk setting and does make the driving point a little hard to understand. Problem is I don't think you'll catch anymore hints with repeated viewings, so it relies on you to draw your own conclusions and create your own backstory, which is kind of cool in a way, but sometimes I want a backstory already created by professional writers! All in all if you're a fan of indie movies and science fiction then you owe it yourself to check this one out.

martial arts movie - starts off pretty slow, the first half is like a episode of CSI, it gets pretty frenetic later on, and the action is almost balletic and very violent. mainly about a man trying to run from his past, but it catches up with him. 6.5/10

gorgeous graphics and wondrous creatures can't really hide a wafer-thin plot. as a sequel to Lewis Carroll's books incorporating his Jabberwocky poem, it doesn't really impart the wonderment of the original story. Avatar for kids? 5/10

worst of the Grindhouse movies, it's just mean without any attempts at humour or a sense of the self-conscious - it's still enjoyable if you want to treat it as gorenography or whatever and to its credit, the acting's quite good and suitably OTT - 3.5/10

Supposedly, it is one of Tim Burton's favourites. It's about a witch and her undead helpers coming back from the dead to terrorize the family who put them in the grave to start with. The movie was pretty good, definetly entertaining with great sets and atmosphere. It was also pretty morbid for a movie from 1960 with some gross special FX and you can definetly see the heritage from this to later movies like those by Lucio Fulci who must have been very inspired when watching stuff like this (it's definetly an eye popper). It never quite managed to scare me, but I'd still recommend it to all who like horror, particularly those who enjoy italian flavours. I reckon Lee might like this if he hasn't seen it yet.

Funny that you mention this. it has been a film on my 'to watch' list for years and years and I got to see it a few months back and I was a little disappointed. No doubt there are some great set pieces (the opening and the coffin reveal) and it has a great atmosphere but I built this one up in my head so much and felt let down. The gothic atmosphere is one I am well versed in having grown up with and still loving Hammer Horror so it left me wanting a little more originality.

This is still on my wishlist but Grindhouse was generally mean and dispirited and the humour of the genre has been over emphasised by the recent revival. There was occasional moments of black humour in Grindhouse films but the aim WAS to be mean, moody and harsh. Humour was a by product.

Exactly! I think people who don't like Hobo With A Shotgun don't really understand or enjoy it's heritage. I felt like it did a very good job in it's homage, being mean as you say, campy, has over-the-top "pointless" violence, taking itself very seriously now and then and making much of the humour seem unintended. And Rutger Hauer was bloody brilliant for the part!

Which of course is a campy classic :) The story is remarkably similar to that from The Haunting which is more famous and came out a few years later. Vincent Price plays an eccentric millionaire who invites a group of people to a ghost party in a haunted house he has rented. Each guest gets 10 000 dollars if they can last the night and of course all sorts of spooky stuff happens. The movie gets a bit silly occasionally, but that's alright because it doesn't feel like it takes itself too seriously. Unlike Mask of Satan, it actually had a scene which made the wife jump quite a bit so it manages to be spooky now and then too. The best thing about it was definetly Vincent Price's role.

Recommended to fans of old horror films or ghost mysteries :)

Vincent Price and Carol Ohmart played off each other perfectly in this movie. I could watch it over and over just to watch them bicker.

I hadn't seen this in forever, I was home from work sick, and it was available streaming on Netflix so I watched it. Not bad. Not great either, but it has its moments.

Cannibal Terror, but I found it bad and boring.
