It's aggravating that even with all these technological advancements, the 3D glasses still end up making you look like a twat.
|
I can only see the 3D effect for the first 15 minutes before my eyes get fucked up, and those 15 minutes are usually spent on the trailers before the show.
|
I saw it in 2D and it was really good. I don't know, it might have been better in 3D, but there was nothing wrong with good ol' 2D for me

The Shawshank Redemption
http://www.sulekha.com/mstore/satyek...redemption.jpg Tim Robbins played the character of Andy Dufresne splendidly, my favorite character in the film. he was so mysterious and you never knew what was going to happen with him or to him next. so many memorable scenes and dialogue, especially through Morgan Freeman's narration and the confrontations between Dufresne and the antagonists. while not as gory or bloody as prison movies that'd be released today, there will still enough scenes that'd leave a chill in your bones and unease in your mind without showing any blood. definately one of the best films that i have ever seen. The Secret of NIHM http://onceuponawin.files.wordpress....et-of-nimh.jpg beautifully animated and a story that really grabbed your attention. for an animated movie it surprised me the sort of dark turns it had taken. i loved the wide scope they gave this film that was essentially about small animals on a farm. the only thing i was not so hot about was how short it was. i understand that most animated movies usually stay around the one and a half hour mark, but i thought this was a film that really should have went past that. i really felt that some of the scenes deserved a little more buildup or suspense than they were given. overall though, great film for anyone who's a fan of the work of Don Bluth(The Land Before Time, An American Tail, The Rescuers, etc.) and a fantastic animated film at that. |

It was a lot better than I was expecting. Totally different than the other two and had a really interest concept. I'd like to see some more movies in this vein if anyone has any recommendations. |

I ended up watching a Moroccan movie last night up at school called What a Wonderful World
It was an interesting movie, had a very Quentin Tarantino vibe to it. Essentially it was the intertwined stories of a hitman, a traffic cop, a prostitute, and a computer hacker. It was one of those movies that seemed to be artsy for the sake of being artsy, which can get a little tiring because you're spending all your time trying to figure out what the hidden meanings are. Overall though it was a pretty enjoyable film, however a lot of the other people at the movie really didn't care much for it. |
re Possession (1981)

It was a bit of a mess but i got the gist of it (especially reading about the director's divorce issues at the time)... however two bits of imagery i couldn't work out: the pink socks and the ribcage thing. any ideas? |

He's one of my favorite animators of all time, he worked on a few Disney classics such as Sleeping Beauty, Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood, and NIMH is argubly his best non-Disney film. It's a shame he went downhill in the 90s with stuff like Rock-A-Doodle and Thumbelina, the animation was still fantastic, but that can't always save a lousy story and voice acting. I actually liked Titan AE though. :o: Oh, and Bluth is currently working on a Dragon's Lair movie, how cool is that? I'm actually looking forward to seeing it. |

finally got to see Bowie Jr's Moon, recommended

Watched that Butterfly Effect 2 eventually.
Dragged out shite. In the old one, it was always changing places, Ashton was always going back and trying to fix things etc, and in this one he stays rich for like ever. I nearly fell asleep. Don't watch it. Complete waste of time :(. |
Just watched District B13 (Banlieue 13)
Stylized action thriller is set in Paris 2010, where the government has fenced off the city's ghettos, the most dangerous of which is District B13. Teaming up to infiltrate the lawless sector, an elite-unit cop and a reformed vigilante put their lives on the line in a gutsy attempt to retrieve a stolen nuke and thwart a terrorist attack by the city's most powerful gang. I enjoyed it, very fast-paced with good action. Some over the top of course, but fun to watch. Lots of street jumping. The original is in French, I watched it with English subtitles. Hard to understand fast French ghetto talk. In fact the subtitles were kind of useless, no time to read them. If I didn't speak French I probably would have switched to the English-dubbed version after 5 minutes. http://parkour-videos.com/images/Dis...3-poster-2.jpg |

Just saw the original Batman. Having seen The Dark Knight first, I thought it couldn't be beat, but now I'm not so sure. I really can't decide which one I like more. |
I still think there are some things the 89 Batman did better.
It wasn't preachy, Keaton was a way better Batman, his suit and batmobile actually looked cool, the music was way better and the film actually LOOKED like a Batman movie. Oh, and Kim Basinger is a lot hotter than Maggie Gyllenhaal. :D |

One of my favorite movies of all time. "Did you ever want to be anybody else?" "I'd like to try Porky Pig." |
Watched Live Free or Die Hard for some reason. The first time I saw it, I remember somewhat liking it. This time, just pure hatred.

^ John Wayne's breakthrough movie. I've always been a bit of a sucker for well-written, character-driven films, so I absolutely loved it. Definitely in the top drawer of westerns then. |

Saw Edward Scissorhands the other day, trying to catch up on all the good Tim Burton movies that I've missed. It was really touching, and I thought the whole movie was well done. Such a normal setting was really turned in to and interesting place, and all of the characters were well acted. |
^ I love Edward Scissorhands, very touching indeed.
http://www.yume.co.uk/wp-content/upl...ena_poster.png It's an Argentinian movie, called LA ANTENA ('The Aerial' or 'Télépolis'). Such a lovely movie. An homage to silent movies and German expressionism in particular. It's a silent movie in itself, which is given context to in the movie. It happens in a city ruled by the media (or just "television") were the voices have been taken from the citizens (Thus everyone is silent, tho they do talk). 9/10 |
I absolutely loved La Antena. Great choice.
I saw Up, which was fun (7/10), Ciao, which was pretty bad in a way only gay movies can be bad (4/10) and Derek, which was alright (6/10). Jarman was a really charming and lovable man, it's a shame I don't really understand his art...:/ |

And it was more of an official cultural thing with the Argentinian embassy. They did the same thing with the Colombian embassy last year, but the movies weren't so great. |

In what way is Ciao gay? And how did that make it worse? |
Yeah, I didn't think Up was as good as Nemo or The Incredibles, but definitely one of the better animated offerings in the last few years. Just wish they'd drop the predictable chase sequences near the end.
Ciao is a gay film in that it focuses on gay characters. Unfortunately, seeing as how most such films target a specific and small gay audience, they tend to be low budget and have a low-talent cast (it's kinda hard to find good gay actors, I guess?). So this one is plagued most notably by a lack of acting talent. But it was rather unusual in the sense that it didn't have a sex scene (most *** themed films do) and did actually aspire to something more serious and meaningful (it's about dealing with grief, mostly) and had achieved a certain melancholic mood. But I place way too much weight on acting for any of it to matter much in the end. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone really...:/ |

Focused on gay characters... that would explain it.
Did you see Milk by any chance? If so what did you think of it |

Btw, I'm not criticizing sex in gay films, but I'd like them not to rely on it alone and the good looks of the actors to sell the film (like Shelter for example, which is a terrible film but which seems to rank very highly within gay circles...presumably because of the good looks of the actors...didn't see much else going for it...:/) Quote:

http://www.cmoproducciones.com/imagenes/afiche-gato.jpg *** I guess it's the same in all the countries where there are no big movies. Like 2 years ago, there was a Lebanese movie that made it to Canne. Of course all the Lebanese saw it as one of the best movies of all time, tho in reality it was only a good average movie. But it was the best Lebanon had ever seen. So people can get biased, I guess that's why the embassy wanted to show us such a shitty movie. |
