Hills Have Eyes? Probably the remake... it seemed recent. I don't know the history here. I was unaware there was an original/remake situation. But yeah, it didn't seem like a 1977 version, so I'm gonna say remake.

In that case you need to watch the Wes Craven original, its a cheesy horror classic of the late 1970s video age. The original film poster had the great line "The Lucky Ones Died First"

Here is the trailer.

I can only remember one Wes Craven film which I thought was reasonably good and that was Nightmare on Elm Street. His closure in the Elm Street series was also okay, although mostly because of curiosity value. The other movies I've seen from him have been mediocre to bad. The worst I've seen is probably his "remake" of Carnival of Souls. Good gods what an awful flick.

edit :

Before anyone corrects me, I checked and just saw he didn't actually direct that Carnival of Souls remake. It just says "Wes Craven presents" on the box.

why do i do this to myself :(

alright....i read the book.....the book is basically three different stories about how people deal with tragedy and grief....the movie concentrates only on one of the three stories......the worst and most annoying of the three stories.....the main stars of the movie are barely in the book but have huge parts in the film.....the kid is still annoying and needs to be punched in the face but may be actually worse in the film.....the only good character in the "Oscar arc" of the book was completely omitted from the movie......this movie would have sucked either way....with having read the book...or not knowing anything about it

Watched Tarsem Singh's The Fall :) It's a fantasy drama where two people in a hospital, a young man and a five year old girl, spin this fantastic tale together about love and revenge. The story follows the drama in the hospital as well as the fantasy story they (mostly him) make up - a bit like Big Fish. The story was touching, engaging, sometimes exciting and 6 year old Catinca Untaru had the most impressive performance. Her role in the movie was largely unscripted. She's just living her role in the film. A joy to watch!

Shooting of the film also took place in more than 20 countries and it's beautiful to watch, a real treat for the eyes. I imagine some could find it just a little slow, but I was in the right mood and felt entertained from start to finish.

Not completely flawless, but obviously a labour of love and well worth checking out for those who think they might like something like this.

Blue Velvet
Another "classic" that I hadn't seen yet, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The first appearance of Frank Booth and the sex scene were some of the most intense things I've seen in film. Not to mention that final gunshot to the face was possibly the most satisfying death I've ever seen in a movie. Loved the ending too. Will have to watch this again some time. 8.5/10

The part with Rosselini and the nude scene on the lawn was one of the most intense things I've ever seen.

Very remarkable film. I feel strongly that if Ebert were to view it again today, it'd be one of the best things he'd ever seen.

Superb albeit dark subject matter, although, it'd be one of the top films even loosely involving ball not involving MJ. Just solid ****.

There has been a whole slew of medieval/fantasy films over the last couple of years and most of them have sucked TBH but this is definitely one of the best of the bunch.

No sparkly white teeth, dodgy accents, beautiful sunsets or cutesy fights. It's brutal, bloody, has a base in actual history and looks stunning. All mist and rain and when someone gets hit by a sword they stay hit. The story is slight but it the overall execution makes up for that.
