Kicking and Screaming (1995)

A decent little film about life after college, or rather the stalling of life after college. It has the typical four friends set up, with each friend dealing with their problems in unique ways. One guy takes to having sex with eager Freshmen, another actually decides to re-enroll in college, one just lounges around and does crosswords, and another gets a job at a video store. It's broken up more into bits than a cohesive story so there can be some weird transitions. A scene in particular that stood out for me was one with a support character in the main character's living room one scene, and then the next he's working behind a bar the four characters go to. The film is definitely one of those dramedys, but kind of forgets about it towards the end where it just because a really sad drama, the ending in particular is a major cock slap for that. Basically if you're in this age group (22-25) whose recently graduated college but still unemployed or having a kind of existential crisis, this movie is definitely for you.

although it was a little slow.....the story (which is true) is unbeatable....great for fans of odd dark comedies....

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)

Aw yeah boy! Pretty awesome movie all things considered, and now I get so many of the references seen in other TV shows and movies. Lord Humongous was definitely a better villain than Toecutter and the Gyrocopter guy was pretty funny too.

I love the ending, when he discovers there is no gas in the tanks after risking life and limb.

I guess by the time I reached adolescence and actively fantasized about the end of civilization my fantasies were more geared towards biological diseases. West Nile, Bird Flu, SARS, each of these were widely talked about when I was a teenager so when it came time to watch movies I was more into the ones geared towards this style of apocalypse.

I wonder if that's why zombies are so popular with my generation.

Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012)

I'm not even apologetic about liking this movie. I always enjoyed Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Good Job! and the set up of the movie kind of reminded me of the underrated Weird Al movie UHF (1989). I can definitely see how people could walk away from this and curse the movie's existence for costing them precious brain cells, but really, what else was I going to do on a Thursday evening besides kill brain cells?

Captivating. At least for the first 20 minutes or so. Then it slowly starts to sink in this is nothing more than an Alien remake with great visuals. I think Scott would have done better if he just concentrated on the alien creator race issues. Good that he at least reuses H.R. Giger's designs. Well, really nothing much here, lads and lassies, besides the tense surgery scene and a very nice "navigation" scene. Scott doesn't really have it in him anymore. I'd still watch the sequel, even if I more or less know the answer to some of the unanswered questions and only if it's done by somebody other than Scott. Also humongous plot-holes. And when the Alien connection was finally made, I was way past caring.

2/10 (that's just for the visuals)
