Am I the only person who thinks Django Unchained was bad?

Beasts of the Southern Wild

What a debut film. This kind of reminds me of when Neil Blomkamp came out with District 9 and so many people including myself was just awe struck at what a first time filmmaker could do. Moon also comes to mind. These two films are obviously very different from Beasts but the future for Benh Zeitlin is wide open now because he created a magical little film. I use the word magical because it is what really drives the film for me. I watched it with my girlfriend who didn't like it as much. She seemed to change her mind or at least think about it more after I told her that if you watch the movie in the frame of mind that what you're watching is a magically mini universe the Zeitlin created and that it is a stand a lone place and time...the film becomes less sporadic and more fantastic. Two of the things that stood out to me most was of course the performance of the little girl. She was incredible and even if she doesn't have a lasting career in the future I can at least put this on and enjoy a wonderful performance from such a bright and adorable little girl. The second thing that stood out was the music. It added so much atmosphere and mood to already beautiful shot scenes. I was like a southern whimsical Godspeed You Black Emperor. The track "Storm" must have been a huge inspiration and even if it wasn't it fits beautifully for the subject of this film. I highly recommend checking out this film from a great up and coming filmmaker.

Sound of Noise

This was a fantastic absurdist film. It's got a great soundtrack too. It's based off of a composition called "Music for One City and Six Drummers" where six drummers make an entire city the instrument for a four song gig. The only person that can solve this mystery in this odd world is a tone deaf police officer, which adds a little bit of Gilliam-esque irony to the mix. I would highly recommend this quirky and hysterical film for a good ride, I'd also suggest downloading the soundtrack, which has all of the performances (which are the best part of the movie). 10/10

Here's a little clip of some of the music that they do before the gig.

I was really hoping to see that one, but none of the theaters around here ever had it. I think it's going to be one of those "wait till it's on Amazon Instant Video or Netflix" kind of movies for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it though, the critic who recommended it also was really impressed by what he saw.

So supposedly, this is one of the first films ever that was filmed in "Natural Vision" 3D. However, buy the time of its release, there wasn't a big market for 3D films, so it was released almost exclusively in 2D. Last night the Alamo Drafthouse was showing it in 3D...and it was so freakin amazing. It wasn't the viewing experience you usually get now, with **** popping out toward the camera so it looks like it's coming off the screen. But the depth it added to this film was outstanding. You notice by the way set pieces are placed and how the actors are positioned in certain scenes, how Hitchcock really intended for this to be a 3D film. Plus, even in 2D, it's just a terrific film anyway! The truth is, I'm not a huge fan of 3D in general, but this was one of the best 3D movies I've had the pleasure of seeing.

is it your sole intent to come in here and make me rage with jealousy?!

it's working

My mom got me this on Blu Ray for my upcoming birthday, can't wait to watch it. Everything I've heard makes it sound phenomenal. Did it remind you of a Terrence Malick film at all?

It was super disjointed, the main villain didn't show up until more than halfway through the movie, the main villain was nearly evil enough, and the dialogue was bland. I just found myself bored at the end of the movie. He needs to learn how to edit his movies way better.
