Well, James Cameron movies aren't exactly known for being experimental, but I'd say The Abyss is probably his least formulaic movie.

Same here. I totally guessed that the cyborg with marital problems would arrive from the future on the deck of the Titanic, mate with a blue person, use an exoskeleton forklift to kill the queen and save humanity by threatening everyone with bad weather.
