Good point. I've planned on giving it another go for a while. This debate has moved it up in the queue.

EDIT: There's the scene in a restaurant with his son early on where he threatens to gut a dude and his family in front of a bunch of patrons.

I think it's kind of overrated too. It's beautifully shot, has an interesting premise, has some great acting in it and has a terrific score, but somehow it doesn't add up to much for me. I think the same is true of The Master as well.

I'm pretty sure that's the point. It looks like exploitation for the sake of exploitation and the director doesn't care who knows it.

I've seen a fair share of violent exploitation flicks, so I'm not a stranger to it. I just generally consider it rather cheap entertainment.

Who cares if the entertainment is cheap? So long as it's entertaining. If a five dollar crack whore gives you the best head of your life and no Herpes, then what's the problem?
