Pan's Labyrinth

Objectively, it was a good movie. Really wasn't my thing though, can't say I enjoyed it.

NumberNineDream 06-07-2010 05:17 PM

^Now that's another surprising thing!

I'm guessing you liked it?

*spoilers*

IDK, I couldn't watch Pan's in a couple parts, especially when the chick shoved the knife in the guys mouth. Oh, and the pistol-butt beating was really gruesome.

i tried to watch this movie but the ****ty video store i rented it from had a scratched up copy that wouldn't work; it kept skipping and i couldnt get through it. but i do remember an especially crude scene where the commander or whoever smashed a dude's face in with the bottom of wine bottle.

i should get it from a different place or something.

NumberNineDream 06-07-2010 06:02 PM

I loved that some of the scenes are crude. Without these scenes, it would appear as some lame innocent fairy tale.

Rhovanion 06-07-2010 07:32 PM

Saw Prince Of Persia today at the cinema. I really loved it. I haven't played the game so I can't comment on how true it was to that, but as entertainment it was perfect.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but when I offer mine I get accused of me thinking my taste is better than everyone elses?

FETCHER. 06-08-2010 07:01 AM

Er never mind. I was in a bad mood... and just being an arsehole... sorry about that.

Ghost World - 9/10

Watched this years ago and liked it, but I don't think I quote grasped it as much as I did last night. Amazing film, very funny, very witty and the whole concept of individuals not being able to relate to someone is a great tightrope for a storyline to walk across. Steve Buscemi at his absolute best, this movie makes me wish he had major roles in more movies as he's usually amongst the sub cast and his talent isn't projected as much as it definitely should be. The scene where Enid is working at the cinema had me howling.. genius!

Eh, wasn't for me...

Violent & Funky 06-08-2010 03:20 PM

LOL, Deep Blue Sea is one of those moves that you know is bad but you enjoy it anyway because it's so damn entertaining. Kinda like The Rock...

So bad it's good? I hate them films, they have a certain charm to them that you just can't hate. For me Deep Blue Sea just didn't have that charm about it.

not even seeing Samuel L Jackson being torn asunder by two sharks?

James 06-08-2010 03:56 PM

Nah kayleigh you were in line and brought up some valid points don't apologise.

Valid points? That because I dislike a film I think my taste is superior?! That's a poor point James. Poor!!!11

But still, there's no need to apologise Kayleigh. :)

And Samuel L being torn apart upsets me a little :(

James 06-08-2010 03:58 PM

Nah but you were a little harsh.

"Scary because it was so bad?" = harsh?

Saying FUCK YOUR SHARKS UP YER ARS, WENCH! would've been harsh. It was just my dry white combined with my dislike for Deep Blue Sea. After all I spent £4 on that in ASDA a few years ago. Still never quite gotten over it.

James 06-08-2010 04:15 PM

Yes cause you could have done so much with that £4 otherwise.
Like invested in ricecakes or something.

£4 is a lot of money when you're 13!

James 06-08-2010 04:23 PM

Truth I'd kill for £4

FETCHER. 06-08-2010 04:25 PM

you were a rich 13yr old mate. I had like 30p to go the shop with nvm £4 for dvds. but aye i do apologize for my bad mood, but I do still think it was a decently good film :)

James 06-08-2010 04:29 PM

Kayleigh had to ride to the shop on her Penny Farthing.

FETCHER. 06-08-2010 04:36 PM

**** you, I'm only 18 :(. I actually had a horse, and cart.

TheCunningStunt 06-08-2010 04:37 PM

Fancy!

Indeedy. I'm the daughter of a duchess...

Just saw the NY Premiere of "Cyrus" with Marisa Tomei and John C. Reilly. They were both there and I saw Susan Sarandon as well.

Enjoyed the movie it was pretty funny.

Laces Out Dan! 06-10-2010 08:47 PM

Get him to the Greek.

Liked it a lot, one of the funnier movies Ive seen in a long time. Russel Brand and Jonah Hill were great.

Weird but entertaining...

dankrsta 06-11-2010 09:58 AM

^^I have to see this film. I've heard good things about it. And I love Nicolas Cage when playing crazy. He's best role for me was in Vampire's Kiss. He was hilarious in that. Besides, every Herzog film is worth checking out, even if it may not be on par with his older ones.

I didn't have time for a long movie and got this thing for free by renting it at the public library. It was one of the better romantic comedies I have seen, I'll give it that. That genre isn't really my thing, but it was still worth my time...

TheCunningStunt 06-11-2010 01:39 PM

^

One of my favourites. The problem with romance is how over the top it is, a real down to earth film that anyone who has been in love can relate to, rather than the happy ever after ending. I sat down watching it thinking meh, light hearted chick flick and now it's one of my favourite films. Plus the mention of The Smiths and Joy Division = winner.

Not gonna lie, I thought of you when I saw that part. They talked about The Beatles too, and the whole time I had no idea what they were talking about haha. I did recognize The Pixies at the karaoke though!

Haha yay! :D I was so happy when Zooey sang There Is A Light in the lift. The bit about The Beatles made me smile cos I had that exact conversation with a girl and she said "Ringo for the win" and I was like NO!

I don't remember The Pixies at the karaoke?! I don't think I was into them when I first saw it though.

Violent & Funky 06-11-2010 01:54 PM

NumberNineDream 06-11-2010 02:08 PM

^ How bout Train in Vain at the Karaoke and the London Calling T-shirt, plus Ingmar Bergman's Seventh Seal reference in the theatre?

That director really had fun doing that movie. He just squeezed in every reference he could think of.

TheCunningStunt 06-11-2010 02:09 PM

Oooh yeah, I remember now. I wasn't in to them at the time I don't think, so it just passed me by.

The Smiths, Joy Division, The Beatles AND The Pixies references. What a top film.

EDIT: And The Clash!!

Violent & Funky 06-11-2010 02:21 PM

Haha it was kinda pretentious but I enjoyed it...

NumberNineDream 06-11-2010 02:23 PM

^First movies are always pretentious.
That's what's fun in them.
