Try The Big Country and I assume you've seen High Noon? Two completely atypical westerns. 3:10 to Yuma is great too, and of course you've seen Unforgiven (how many times?) though for comic westerns you can't beat Evil Roy Slade.

As an American I've seen my fair share, and even the good ones generally don't rock my world. I just don't give a **** about cowboys in general.

Then you're not a true American, are you? Virginia? They BUILT that state, pal! Ask the Indian - ah, Native Americans.

And I would have thought the West would have been your time: carry a gun with impunity, ride a horse, **** anyone you want, shoot down any **** who looks sideways at you, rob trains, rob banks and end your days swinging from a rope! Who could wish for more out of life?

Huh? Virginia is pretty ****ing far from cowboy territory.

They also wear stupid hats, talk like ignorant hicks, are ignorant hicks, and are played entirely too much by John Wayne.

I remember liking Unforgiven, but that's probably about as much as I've liked a Western.

Westerns have a lot to offer when they don't star John Wayne Gacy imo.

There used to be an old series called The Virginian, and it's pretty much steeped in the culture of the old West. Isn't the Shenendoah Valley there? Still, you live there so I won't pretend to know more about it than you.

Oh I agree with you here. I can't stand Wayne. Never thought he was a good actor anyway and the roles he plays are far too (forgive the pun) black and white. Wasn't it him who branded High Noon as "unAmerican" because of its subject matter, and yet it's one of the classic westerns? No, **** Wayne: Gary Cooper, he's your man. And Eastwood of course. Lee Marvin, too. These are the guys you watch.

You have redeemed yourself somewhat.

My bad, I didn't know he wasn't in all of them.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sure there were people with horses, funny hats, and cringey accents here back in the old days, but cowboys are specifically from the Old West. The "West" part should have been a clue.
