Hereditary

Been getting back into my film past since my girlfriend likes to chill and watch movies. It's been a while since I posted in here. Used to own this place...

I'll be brief though. Gotta get to work.

Hereditary was the most effective horror film I've seen in a decade. Script is tight as f*ck. No cheap jump scares. True horror in some scenes. PERFECT score by Colin Stetson. Toni Collette is a revelation. The kid who plays her son was also fantastic. Perfect air of dread throughout the entire film.

I was floored.

Toni Collette is such a great actress. I'll definitely be checking that one out.

Spoiler for .:
The scene with Collette POUNDING HER F*CKING FACE on the attic door has been the source of nightmares over the last week. Holy f*ck.

The last 30 minutes almost sent me to the hospital.

Omg I know right, I legit shrieked. Fun ride, all around. It was neat how the baby I nanny had just learned to click his tongue at the time I watched this lmao

In many ways, I didn't think it was any better or worse than your average super hero movie, really. It was more the specific ways in which it sucked more than other recent blockbusters. But it was also well made in some ways. I appreciated how it was light hearted all the way through.

And it had plenty of men.

I thought the look of it was in keeping with the original. The problem with it was that it was not very funny or particularly memorable.

I mean it depends what we're talking about. Certain specific object or ghost designs were a lot like something that could have been in the original.

But most of all what I couldn't stop noticing was the general level of color saturation everywhere. Possibly the most colorful movie I've seen in several years. The original doesn't look like that at all. It's way more natural looking.

But yeah, the original is a great movie. This one is not. I just didn't find it completely horrible like it's reputation suggests. More like somewhat alright overall if you just expect it to be a dumb popcorn flick.

Maybe you just need to adjust the color settings on your monitor.
